(OOC: This is set after Zig joins the Protectorate, but before he leaves Earth headed for Namek.)
It had been a long time since Gerrek Zig had taken any training seriously. His recent sparring match with Drexx in the gravity chamber had reminded him just what it felt like to be on the lower end of a power struggle. He'd caught the android off guard with his tail, which was one of his best weapons in his opinion, but it only delayed his own defeat. What's worse is that his most powerful weapon can only be used when there's some sort of liquid nearby, and even then it's most effective only when the liquid is flammable.
While he knew that having a strong finisher was definitely a big advantage in 'hammering the nail in the coffin' when it came to winning a fight, surviving until you reached that point was just as important. So having a good offense wasn't enough in his opinion. Which lead him to one conclusion...he had to make a new technique that would bridge the gap between finisher and survivability. A utility technique that would be his ace. It needed to be unexpected and useful in many situations.
The one area that Zig lacked in the most was likely speed, and that would be the basis of this ability. It had to be something that would cause a drastic spike in his mobility to completely catch the opponent off guard. In his travels during his earlier mercenary years he had heard of a technique that allowed the user to move from one point to another in an instant over a great distance so long as they had a focal point for their destination. He'd never had the chance to learn that skill, but with some ingenuity and effort hopefully he could create similar results.
Now for the extremely hard part, actually devising and accomplishing this prospective technique. The first thing to do was to establish a schematic. The first technique didn't function without a focal point to transmit to, so that was his first issue. Focusing on an ally or his opponent could be worthwhile, but his energy sensing wasn't too keen and he didn't like the idea of being forced to make that kind of choice. All those options were pre-existing targets. He wanted to make his own, which meant he'd need to create his own focal point instead of just finding one.
Since the original technique used the energy of another living being as a target, maybe some of his own energy would work? He was far more in tune with his own power than anyone else's, and he could disperse enough in the area around himself to leave a short term imprint as a target. It would take a moment to do, so while he did that he'd be a sitting duck. Or at least he hoped he could distract his foe long enough to place the energy for his target marker.
But then came the hard part. Moving instantly was complex. It wasn't a matter of physical...wait...he just caught himself. He couldn't physically move that fast even if he were a thousand times his current strength. But could he move energy that quickly? The red alien smirked deviously and scratched his chin idly as he continued his thought process. Converting his physical being to energy would be almost impossible. But it would only take a tiny fraction of a second. All he needed was to forge a link between himself and the target location. He could then use the energy he'd already put in place to pull his physical being along the 'pathway' and transport himself immediately.
He chuckled at his own wit and began focusing his energy on his current location, spreading it into the air immediately around himself to prepare his first attempt of the technique.
(OOC: Proposed Technique...
Name: Lingering Step
Type: Support/Mobility
Effect: Allows short range instant movement once the focal point has been placed. Can be combined with other offensive or defensive techniques.
Limits: A turn must be taken to infuse enough energy into the place where the user is currently at so that it can be used as the focal point for the movement. The 'focal point' only lasts for three turns after it is placed. If an offensive or defensive technique is being used in conjunction with the movement there must be an extra turn of charging to coordinate the two before both techniques are unleashed. Unlike Instant Transmission it cannot be used for interplanetary travel, and it is limited to the distance that Gerrek can physically move within three turns so it is not a viable technique for outright fleeing combat, either. )
