Ikezu took a deep breath as the last water droplet left his hand, and he sat down hovering only inches above the moist ground of the clearing.
The sun shone through the trees casting waves of light on the ground, illuminating the world with brilliant colors as dancing leaves twirled to the ground passing through the light, portraying a story of tranquility on the world. Ikezu watched the light flicker as the leaves passed through it, such a weak thing could halter the path of such a strong force as light.
In the sequence of the book, wood was next, so Ikezu spent the next hour or so meditating on purpose of wood.
‘Wood is stable, yet flexible. Bending yet not breaking, maintaining its own path even when obstacles are put in its way.’
A leaf fell into his lap, resting in his hands. The wind whistled through the tree as the tops swayed in the swift breeze.
‘A strong tree bends with the force of a mighty storm, yet never breaks.’
The leaf fell from Ikezu’s hands.
‘A tree gives freely to those around it, and asks nothing in return.’
The cool breeze kissed Ikezu’s cheek.
‘If an object is placed in the trees path, it will grow around it.’
The sun shines down on Ikezu’s face.
‘If it doesn’t get enough light, it will grow taller. If it doesn’t get enough nutrients, its roots grow deeper.’
Ikezu’s eyes open slowly as he repeats the last part out loud.
“Wood is the element of stability, representing flexibility both in body and in mind. Similarly I must learn to accept those things which I cannot change, and stand strong against opposition remaining flexible to change but adamant against oppression.” Ikezu said as the breeze strengthened and blew the leaves from the tree tops.
“But how can I do that when I’ve suffered so much because of what those people did to my planet?” Ikezu asked himself.
“*sighs* Water teaches us to flow with life, accepting all things and allowing ourselves to move on. I still haven’t let go of the past. Yet letting go of the past doesn’t mean forgetting my purpose. Ok, I understand.” Ikezu said to himself taking a deep breath in and raising his hands all the way up to the sky, taking a deep breath and stretching.
“Stable yet flexible.”
Ikezu’s hands lowered and he swayed to and fro feeling out his own flexibility. His legs straightened as he reached down, and his neck tensed as he rotated his head. Other twisting maneuvered followed as he loosened up his joints for the upcoming kata. It would require his utmost focus and flexibility.
