It was finally 3 o'clock and the students of Central High could be seen eagerly heading out of their classes heading to whatever after school activities they signed up for. The dark haired teenager, Reven could be seen getting out of his Math class with a smirk on his face as he couldn't wait to spar with Mr. Clark again. Sure most students his age who were in the martial arts club normally spared against their peers, but Reven was the only one amongst his peers who has surpassed the average human level. For a while, Reven was in his own little world as he continued to walk as he couldn't help but wonder what kind of technique Mr. Clark was going to use to defeat him this time.
"Hey Reven over here!" shouted a voice from behind causing Reven to snap back to realty. When he turned around he saw his good friend, Erik pushing through the crowd to get to him. Erik himself was a bit taller than Reven and had short blond hair and dark blue eyes.
"Hey Erik, what's up" asked Reven as his friend finally caught up to him. The two would then begin to head to the the gym locker room in order to change into their martial arts gis.
"Nothing much. I just got the results of my Math test and barely passed with a 70. My parents of going to kill me once they here about this"
"Didn't I help you study for that test?"
"You did, it's just that math doesn't stick very well with me. By the way, do you think you'll be able to beat Mr. Clark this time?" asked Erik who usually watched Reven and Mr. Clark duke it out whenever he wasn't training.
"I don't know. His energy attacks are a lot fast than mine and he always does something weird with the kamehameha wave like splitting it into multiple beams. Plus he's been training longer than me, so I need more time to train to catch up to him" explained Reven.
"You sure about that? I've seen you too spar before and it seems like you two are around the same strength. From what I can tell, the only reason why he's been beating you is due to how skillful he is with his techniques" explained Erik as he thought back on all of the spar he has seen. Knowingest to most though, Erik had a talent for being able to sense out how strong an opponent was despite the fact that his strength was within the human level. He knew that Reven could sense ki, so if he had to guess, the only reason why Reven was assuming that was that he was modest when he came down to his abilities.
"Really?"
"Yeah, really. You should take a look at Mr. Clark after you guys stop sparring. He really looks warn out and if I had to guess, he has been fighting you with all of his strength"
"I'll be sure to see how he's doing once we're done" said Reven as they reached the locker room door. After going inside, the two students quickly changed into their gi's with Erik changing into the traditional white gi and Reven changing into his dark blue gi. After they changed, they walked out of the locker room and into the gymnasium where other students that were part of the team were sparring each other. Reven began to look around and noticed Mr. Clark sitting on one of the sparring mats with his legs crossed. Mr. Clark was a huge man standing 6'2ft with a large bulky body full of muscle. His skin was tan and his black hair had a few shades of grew in it since he was around 45 years old. Like Reven, he wore a dark blue gi.
Reven and his friend would then walk up to the middle aged man and when they stepped onto the sparring mat, Mr. Clark looked up at the two students. There was a serious expression on his face, which really wasn't surprising since he usually looked that way. Due to this and his intimidating body build, he was someone most people wouldn't want to mess with. But Reven noticed that this serious expression of his face seemed to be more serious than usual.
"Reven, as of today I am no longer your master" said intimidating man being rather blunt in what he just said.
"No longer my master? What are you talking about? I still have a lot to learn" said Reven looking baffled by what his martial arts teacher just said. After all, this was the man that taught him everything he knew.
"Reven in terms of power, you and I are both equal. But unlike me, you haven't reached that limit yet where you stop growing stronger. If I were to continue training you, I would only be slowing down you fast progress. Plus as a fighter that's your equal, I feel that it would be very inappropriate for me teaching a possible rival. I also want you to leave the martial arts team. You'll still remain a member, but you won't be able to compete in school tournaments or come here to spar against your classmates"
"But Mr. Clark, our first tournament is next week and Reven's the best shot we have at winning" said Erik feeling as though that his best friend was being mistreated just for being as strong as the teacher.
"Fighting against weaker opponents won't improve Reven at all and the other members need to learn how to stay on their own two feet instead of relying on a person stronger than them"
But...
"He's right Eric, the only reason why I have been improving a lot is because I have been fighting against a strong opponent. Mr. Clark, is there anywhere I can go to continue my training?" asked Reven who understood the reason why Mr. Clark wasn't going to train him any more. And that was because Mr. Clark saw him as a fellow fighter, not a student who hasn't learned how to walk on his own yet.
"Well you could go to the new Turtle School and learn a fighting style that overwhelms an opponent with multiple or you could go train at the Victory School and learn how to master your mind and body. Both schools emphasize on teamwork, but I would recommend the Victory school for you because it not only develops your body but also your mind. An important tool for any martial artist" explained Mr.Clark.
"Thanks Mr.Clark. I really appreciated the time training under you. I hope we can fight again in the near future" said Reven as he politely gave a short bow. He would then turn around and started to head towards the the exit of the gym. As Reven was opened the door, Erik turned to follow him, but Mr.Clark suddenly appeared in front of him with speed and said "Leave him be, he has his own path to walk"
