He entered the training areas gym with a yawn and a frown. Another day of dull, tiring, and uneventful training. It gave him something to do but he still didn't enjoy it much. From all he was hearing the best training was had in the higher levels. He let out a sigh as he removed his armor, scouter, gloves and his shirt. If he had to do this, it would be done well and slightly comfortable at least. He dropped the bag he brought with him with a change of clothes and other items he would need.
Standing beside the wall he began a stretching routine to limber up his body alittle. One arm stretched out to one side and brought slowly across his chest and held a moment before moving back out to its starting position, and then followed by the other arm in the same motion. After five sets of these stretches he rotated his upper body left to right, and right to left ten times to stretch this muscles out as well. When this was done he turned to the wall and placed his left leg as high up as he could get it against the wall flat footed, and reached up and leaned into the stretch five times. He switched legs and repeated the process for the right leg as well and then done another set after that. Finally done with stretches he turned to look over the machines available for use. Strength training should be first he guessed.
He walked over to a large machine that would allow him to strength train his legs first. He set the weight at one hundred and then lay on the bench putting his legs against the bar. Breathing in he pushed up releasing the catch and lowered the bar down. His hands gripped the side of the bench to keep him steady as he kept a slow but forceful pace as he pushed the weight back up to the full extent of his legs and then let them down slowly again. He kept his breathing deep and slow. With each push he inhaled, and exhaled when he lowered the weights. He pushed through fifty repetitions before setting them back on the catches. Siting up he smiled enjoying the burn that was now there in full fury.
He stood and moved to the side of the same machine and lay down. Hooking his feet under it to keep them pinned as he placed his hands behind his head he lifted his upper body up and twisted his right elbow to the left side, and then his left elbow to the right side on the next. This motion he repeated ten times. All the time keeping a steady and controlled motion with his breathing. Finally completing his set of sit-ups he unpinned his feet and stood rolling his shoulders. Waiting only a minuet or so to rest he lowered to the floor once more, this time for a set of push-ups.
Placing his hands flat against the ground, his feet together and on their toes he began to lower himself to the floor till about an inch remained and then pushed himself back up. He breathed with each motion, out as he lowered himself, and in when he pushed upward. After ten of these he rested a moment and then went to adjust his hands positions. The right hand was centered and he put the left behind his back as he resumed his push-ups. Managing only six with the right hand, he swapped for the left and managed another six before finishing with five more regular style. He stood and smiled flexing his hands to work the soreness out of them.
He took a few steps over to a neighboring rack and picked up two 25 pound hand held weights. Standing stationary with these two light weight weights he held his arms out evenly beside him to start. He brought his arms out in front of him first, twisting the weights as he done so that they touched when his arms came together. He moved his arms back to their starting position rotating the weights again. Then lowered his arms down slowly as well before bringing them back up, and then in front of him again with the same rotation. He kept this motion in a smooth slow rythem. Breathing in slowly and breathing out slowly with each reverse move.
After he done this a total of thirty times he replaced the weights on the rack and breathed in deeply and rolled his arms again. Such delightful burning he felt through his body right now. To think, burning already and only in the begining of the workout. He picked up a weight bar and loaded one hundred pounds to it. Once the bar was loaded he squats down and firmed his back muscles. Gripping the bar he lifted with his legs, bringing the bar to his waist. Then with a quick lift and curl motion brought the bar to his neck, switching his grip around as he done so. Breathing slowly to keep his breathing steady he slowly put the weight bar behind his head and rested it on his shoulders. He spread his legs so to keep a firm and steady stance he lowered into a squat, and then pushed up again. Breathing out as he went down, and in when he came up.

After fifteen squats he put the bar back down in a reverse motion of when he first picked it up. Putting the weights back in place and then the bar. Once done he stood a moment to relax himself and wipe the sweat that had now worked itself over his face and upper body. Turning away from the rack he walked over to another weight bench that would serve for several other workouts. After adjusting a few settings he set it for butterfly motions first and lay down on the bench. Hooking his arms under the padded grips he lifted his arms straight up with the weights. These weights were the lowest he had set. Ten pounds each for a total of twenty, so he managed twenty five repetitions of this before setting them down.
He twisted just enough to adjust it from the butterfly set to presses. The press was set at One fifty. Lying as flat and steady as he could he reached up and gripped the bar. Lifting the bar up and in over his chest he smiled. This was getting a little more challenging since all of his muscles were now burning. He breathed in and out slowly then in again. As he brought the bar down against his chest he exhaled, and inhaled as he lifted the bar back to the limits of his arms. He repeated this ten times before putting the bar back on its rest. He knew enough not to push his luck with weight training. After another adjustment for the leg section he sat up and hooked his feet into the thirty pound rest and began forceful lifts. He managed ten of these as well, this time he held his breath through most of it.
He found that holding his breath wasn't such a good idea, but it helped build his lung capacity. He was done with the weights for now so he stood and walked over to a rack of towels. Picking one up he patted his face and then draped the towel around his neck and then found a fountain. He took a few deep drinks of water before he walked past the weights to what looked like a weird bicycle. Setting on it he set in a distance, and tightened the rotators a little. This should get his heart rate beating. He hit the timer and then with hands gripping the handle bars he began to pedal.
He kept this up for about three miles worth. When the timer buzzed he slowed his motions to a stop and sat straight up, breathing deep and hard. Getting off the bike he dried his face again and went to fill a bottle of water. Once done he sat the bike for a longer time and distance and removed the resistance on the rotator. Taking a drink he started the timer and started pedaling again. He went slow, fast, medium and then hard and fast at different intervals to maximize the workout and get the most out of it. Taking a drink every now and then to keep himself from getting dehydrated.
When the timer buzzed again at the end of another six mile ride time he was breathing fast and hard. He slowed his motions to a stop and dried his face and neck before taking a deep drink of the water. He swallowed slowly so not to make himself sick as he stood and walked slowly around to ease his heart beat down as well as his breathing. He checked the time and smiled. An hour and a half at least had passed and he still wasn't done. He planed on doing a lot more as well before leaving the gym.
As he let himself rest for a few moments to regroup his energy and let the burning die away a bit he walked the gym a little. Staying in motion helped keep him limber and ready. He found another machine to try out, this one though was build for running. Good, that’s what he could use before he continued with the rest of his training. He walked back to the water fountain and refilled the half empty bottle and splashed a little of the cool water against his face before returning to the running machine and preset it.

After the machine was set, he placed the bottle of water beside the controls and stepped up onto the rotating belt. Taking in a deep breath he turned it on and began a slow pace that became a fast walking pace. He held his arms at his sides and moved them with his walking pace to further his heart rate. As he walked he looked around at the gym yet again. Trying to see just what was there that he could use afterwards.
He remained on this walking machine for half an hour at the same fast walk pace. When his breathing became a little hard to control he slacked up to give himself time to regroup and after an hour the timer beeped and he slowed to a stop. His legs burned and throbbed from the lengthy exercise but it was worth it. Wiping his face with the towel he stepped down and picked up the water bottle. He took a deep drink, but swallowed slowly so as not to make himself sick. Breathing deep and slow he forced a more natural rhythm to his breathing. His heart was pounding faster that normal since the workout which was good. He walked over to a bar suspended about head height, and ten inches out from the wall.
Putting the towel and the bottle down he rolled his shoulders and reached up with the back of his hands facing the wall and gripped the bar. Tensing his muscles he pulled upwards, lifting his body from the floor until his chin passed over the edge of the bar. Holding it there for a few seconds he bent his legs backwards and lowered to the full length of his arms and lifted again. He kept a slow motion and breathed in as he lifted, and breathed out as he lowered. Stopping at the top for only a few seconds each time to allow a small burn to form in his arms before lowering and repeating.
He performed this routine 15 times before getting back on his feet. His arms and shoulders were giving him a good aching feeling now. He thought a moment before turning and standing on his hands, putting his legs in the air near the bar. Lowering and then lifting quickly he managed to hook his legs over the bar. Taking a deep breath he made sure his knees were bent as far as possible to keep him in place. Then placing his hands behind his head he began to bend at the middle. Lifting up and then lowering with each steady breath.
He kept this up for fifteen repetitions before he let himself hang upside down on the last one. Stretching his arms out, hands flat he straightened his legs and hit the floor with his hands. With a quick spring action he put himself back onto his feet and steadied himself. Giving himself a few seconds for the blood to flow back to the rest of his body before he walked past the machines to what appeared to be an inside track. He needed something now to increase his speed. After that was done he could repeat the routine. At the track he looked it over slowly and gave a shrug as he found it suitable at least.
Choosing to points he put the towel at one point, and the bottle at the other. This would serve as markers for this exercise of speed. Standing next to the bottle he focused on the other end where the towel lay. He popped his neck left, then right and with one deep breath he took off at full speed. He let his breathing flow with the pace, his arms pumping with his legs as he closed in on the towel. When he reached it he stopped, turned around and raced full speed back to where he started. Each time he reached the opposite mark and turned he went faster than the last time. He kept this up for half an hour for good measure and then slowed his pace as he picked up the bottle then the towel to end the exercise.

It was now near noontime and he was pretty well drained. He walked back to where his gear was and sat down. Slowly draining the water in the bottle he kept his hunger curved for the time being. When he left here he would have a ravenous hunger for sure. For now he let himself rest and rehydrate for the second round. He refilled the bottle twice more during his rest before he was ready to start again.
He yawned as he walked over to a universal weight machine this time. This one he set for a slightly higher weight for arms and legs. Then sitting on it, his back against the rails he lifted his arms up to the padded arms. Breathing in he brought his arms together with the arms of the bench as well. Breathing out he let them return to their normal position. Each motion followed the same routine, breathing in while bringing the arms together and breathing out as they returned to original position. He kept his eyes ahead of him at all times to remain focused. He made a set of 20 repetitions for this exercise.
Once done with this part he lowered his arms and moved up a little. He hooked his feet under the lifting bar and set the weights for it. Stabilizing himself on the bench he began a slow and easy lift and lower motion with the same breathing he had used all day. He kept his mind clear as well of all things other than what he was doing. Knowing that if he didn't concentrate on his exercising he could hurt himself. He managed 20 repetitions for his legs before lowering the bar and unhooking his feet. Setting the bar and selectors again he reached up and gripped a hanging set of handle bars.
With slow and even breathing, he pulled the weights up, and the bars down behind his head to his shoulders. Then let them move up, and pulled them down to his chest this time. He repeated this motion 10 times to each side. Once done he let the weights fall slowly and breathed as he stretched out his arms and rolled his shoulders. All this working out was boring to the highest degree but needed. He would be glad to leave this basic stuff behind the sooner.
He looked around and went over the bench he first started with and set it for a higher weight this time. Then laying down, his feet braced on the floor he reached up and gripped the bar. Lifting the weight up and out over his chest he kept a slow and steady breath with each lower and rise of the bar. Bringing the weight down slowly, and up slowly as well. Still tired and sore from the warm up, he only managed to repeat these motions with this weight 10 times before putting it back on the rest. Sitting up he looked at the floor thinking while he could before he chose his next move.

Standing he moved over to the rack of weights and set up a bar with fifty pounds of weight on it. Holding it in his hands he began to raise and lower the bar from his thighs to his waist, and then down again. He repeated this ten times before setting it at waist and then from his waist to his chest. This he repeated ten times as well before returning to the original set. He kept a fast pace with this but slow breathing. He didn't stop until he managed 25 sets of each.
Once he was finished he replaced the bar and the weights. He looked over the other options here and picked up a 25 pound miniature barbell. Holding it by one end in both hands he took a wide stance at a decent clearance from the rack. He bent down and rose up with the weight at full extension of his arm. Bending only with his back and stomach muscles each time with his breathing. He continued this pace for the span of 30 repetitions before stopping and placing the weight back where he got it.
Leaving the rack he went back to get his towel and water bottle. He took a shallow drink and wiped his face and neck. He was burning again from head to toe and he welcomed it. He then moved to where the leg machine sat and increased its weight and lay back and prepared for another round with it. He pushed up and released the catches and began a stronger, and faster pace this time. After another 15 repetitions he placed the catches back in place and lay there. What else should he do before ending his day in basic?
He stood and smiled as he found off in one corner of the gym a place set with large bags for punching and kicking. These usually went for strength and some of the smaller ones for speeds. He walked over to the corner and without bothering to tape his hands he picked out a thick, heavy back and with a stable stance began a steady rhythm of heavy and quick strikes. Rotating from one arm to the other, high, low and mid section strikes. Moving his upper body with each change so that his entire upper body was soon burning with the motions. His breathing was quick with each motion as well.
He soon switched from punches to kicks. This was slower but still just as useful. After a few kicks with one leg, he switched to the other and continued. Each switch he would move faster and harder, his breathing following the motions always. These exercises aided in toughing his body as well for fighting. When he finished with the kicks he turned and walked back to the running machine. He set it for a ten minuet run and then stepped up and began a mild run. While he ran he thought since it was easy to do on this particular exercise. What did he want out of all this training? Where did he want all of this to go?
As he thought about these questions he smiled to himself and continued his running. The answer was easy enough to figure out for him. All of this hard work for the simple hopes to be noticed by the king. He wanted to be trained by the one person he held in greater respect and honor than his own self and father. He wanted to be an elite class soldier, a personal body guard to the king. Become a great saiyan warrior for the saiyan race. That’s what all of this was for. The upside also being that he would be able to take care of himself in just about any battle and maybe someday take a woman for his own.
He smiled outwardly now as the run timer buzzed. He slowed down and then stepped off of the belt and breathed deeply. He wiped his face and took a shallow drink from his bottle and walked over to the weight rack again. Picking up two 25 pound hand held weights he sat down and pinned his feet under part of the rack with his knees together and up. Laying out flat he brought the weights up and crossed his hands over his chest. Breathing deeply to slow his heart rate a little more he tensed his body.

He rose with his back and stomach muscles only. The added weight crossed over his chest put that much more difficulty to it. He began each motion with the same breathing method he had been using all day so far. When he made ten repetitions he stopped for only a second and then pushed on for another ten for a total of twenty. When he finished he moved the weights out to arms length four times and crossed them over his chest. His body was burning from pushing that extra ten and he knew it.
When he replaced the two weights he breathed in and out as he got back to his feet after unpinning them. With the towel and bottle he walked to the back where the track was. Another round of speed training and then he would be ready for a shower. This time he set the towel and the water bottle further apart. He started at the bottle again, and at full speed pushed for the towels location. His breathing rapid and controlled with the run he came to his goal and instead of stopping spun on his heel and went back the other way.
He kept this routine up for almost half an hour before slowing down to collect the towel, and then the water bottle. By now his breathing was hard, fast and deep despite his breathing exercises. His arms, chest, feet and legs burned fiercely with being pushed so hard for so long. Wiping his face and drinking shallowly he walked slowly around the gym to study everything while he regained a more easy breathing. When he managed to get his breathing back down he stopped near his clothes and put the towel and water bottle down. Taking a side stance he began his stretching routine again to end his exercises.
He smiled and now done with that he popped his neck and twisted his upper body both left and right, popping his back as well to limber him up more. He looked down to his clothes, picked them up and headed for the showers. On his way he dropped his dirty clothes into a bag and grabbed a fresh towel. He went to the shower room lockers and found one he normally used when he came here and picked out fresh clothes. With fresh clothes in hand he stripped the rest of the way and put the rest of his dirty clothes with the others. Then he walked into one of the shower stalls and turned the water on to a hot mix with little cold. He stood under the water with his face pointed up into the falling water. Letting the water rush down his face, through his hair and over his body. The heat and steam washing out and over him easing away all of the burning and soreness in his body.
He turned and sighed deeply as the force of the water that now hit his neck, shoulders and back massaged away the pain. He stood this way for a few minuets as well before picking up the shampoo he brought in and washed his hair. Following this he picked up the soap and washed his body as well. Once that was done he simply stood under the cascading water to let it melt away the day’s fatigue. Some of the greatest warriors started out as he had and had worked hard and been rewarded, some by their own hands and others by those better or higher up than them. He too will join the ranks of great warriors by his own efforts or he'll die trying. He had a good start and he could only hope it was enough to give him what he needed.
Turning the water off finally he stepped out and dried off. Walking back to a bench where he had set his clothes he dressed and put the wet towel into the bag with dirty clothes and then put the rest of his gear on. With the bag of clothes he sighed again and stepped out of the shower room and headed for the doors. It had been a good workout at least and he had improved a little. Starting out low was how most began. But even the low can gain power. And he would reach the top someday.
