Today Zach started his day like every other on the lookout, in his perpetual bad mood. Today though he intended to be a day of solo training and would not let himself be distracted or interrupted by any of the others. He'd had the evening to recover from the previous day's training with Kami and intended to continue with his own. Rising from bead, Zach dressed and made his way to the kitchen to make himself breakfast. He'd made sure to adjust his sleep schedule so that he could wake before everyone else on the lookout, preferring not to run into any of them, with Kami being the sole exception, but only just barely. Along with his training, Zach also felt like a slight change in the morning's meal. He broke with his usual pattern of high protein breakfasts consisting mainly of eggs, ham and orange juice and chose instead to make something more on the starchy side. Pancakes were the obvious choice and barring the first two which ended up rather scorched, the boy managed to make quite an impressive golden brown stack for himself. A glass of milk accompanied his usual orange juice this morning to help the pancakes down. The boy ate quickly, wasting little time as again, he wished to avoid running into anyone else. They could have their little elitist social group, he didn't need that kind of interaction to prosper, especially vacuous conversation at the table while he was trying to eat.
Zach finished up quickly and then cleaned up after himself before heading out, his next destination was the gravity chamber and why not? He'd essentially wished for the damn thing when he wished to be able to train properly, so why not make us of it as often as possible. His weights alone were a great help but combined with the gravity machine, he'd b able to surpass all of the others. His distain over how Nam had attained such power with no effort was ever present and Zach was determined to wipe that smug sense of self satisfaction they all shared away and show then that he was better. He's been treated like a pawn and wasn't going to just take it happily. It was time now to push his body far beyond what was thought humanly possible and show then that they couldn't hold him back, that his potential outshined anything any of then could possibly imagine or attain themselves. No matter how many freebies Kami gave out, Zach would leave them all behind in the dust and none would ever be able to catch up to him.
It was with this thought and the burning from the previous day's training still in his body that the blonde teen made his way down to the old storage room that had been converted into the gravity chamber. The corridor outside the room was still cluttered with what the boy considered junk. It was everything that had occupied the room before they installed the gravity plating on the floor and ceiling, mostly dusty old chairs, a desk, two dead potted plants that the previous caretaker had hidden away as he probably did not possess the green thumb the Kami and Zach did, and other antiques. Zach gave a passing thought to rifling through the stuff to see if anything interesting was hidden away but now was not the time. Now was the time to train and train he would.
Opening the door to the chamber, Zach stepped inside and then sealed the entrance behind him, he wanted no interruptions, they would only be more attempts to hold him back. The 'In use' light bulb outside of the door flickered on as the boy turned the setting selector dial to his next level of training, fifteen times normal Earth gravity. He took a few moments to ready himself, checking to make sure his weighted wristbands were secure and then activated the machine. Zach had already adjusted well to his weights considering the amount of mass they added to his frame, heck he even managed to make breakfast without breaking anything which was an astounding feat considering how ungainly the added weight tended to make one's movements. Now though with the gravity ramping up over a period of fifteen seconds, one second for every single digit increase in gravity, Zach could feel his body getting heavier. Most people would let their arms simply hang to lessen the burden on their muscles while the gravity ramped up, Zach instead stuck his arms out to either side to get a feel for just how heavy they were going to get.
Once the machine had attained fifteen Earth gravities, the controlled elicited a beep to indicate that the system had stabilized and that training could commence. With that green light from the machine, Zach ventured out into the middle of the room, each step measured and an obvious strain as the boy tried not to collapse under his own weight. No longer was he carrying the weight of an automobile in his clothing, but now fifteen automobiles. No longer was it just an impressive sixteen hundred pounds but now Zach's clothing was adding a crushing twenty four thousand pounds to his body. In any other environment Zach would sink right into the ground or through the floor with that kind of weight balanced on his feet. The gravity chamber though was designed for this purpose though and the massive weight was isolated in the chamber it's self so that Zach's clothing still only imparted sixteen hundred pounds on the structure rather then the full twenty four thousand the boy was experiencing inside the chamber. Crushing though the weight was, Zach managed to stay on his feet although after a few moments he did do the expected thing and drop his arms back down to his sides.
"Ok, now this is what I'm talking about." the teen commented to himself and started to stretch. He never needed to stretch much though, just move his arms about a but to wake all of his muscles up, the same with the legs and torso. Then came the tough part, getting down on his knees without falling. Zach was already starting to sweat as he carefully lowered himself and then propped his upper body up on his arms. The first item on his list was enhanced gravity pushups and even though he'd done pushups with his weights before, nothing could have prepared Zach for how strenuous the activity was. It was almost embarrassing how much he was struggling to complete just one set. He wasn't going to give up though, thrust after thrust, Zach forced himself to complete the set and then dropped to the side, rolling into his back. Without topping to rest, the boy moved right to his next exercise, sit-ups. Folding his arms behind his head and extending his legs out Zach used the added weight in his boots to hold his legs down as he tightened his abdominals and ascended to the sitting position and then slowly lowered himself back down. Up and down, up and down. Zach completed his sit-ups with a similar, Herculean effort as it had taken to do the pushups, and by the time he was done, every inch of skin was covered in sweat. Still, Zach wasn't done yet and after a minute to rest in the oppressive gravity, the boy hauled himself to his feet and then started to jog around the room. The expanse of space was hardly suitable for this though and more then once Zach grazed a wall with his shoulder as he failed to cut the turns at the corners of the room just right. In time though the teen managed to not only manage a steady pace but also managed not to crash into any more of the walls.
His jog lasted for about fifteen minutes, working up his heart rate and getting blood pumping to every part of his body. Returning to the middle of the room, Zach continued his workout, assuming his fighting stance and proceeded to engage in some shadow boxing. although it wasn't as beneficial as actual sparring, the shadow boxing did allow Zach to throw as many punches as he liked without fear of reprisal so that he could get his form down and better train his muscles for the action. By the time Zach was done, any real opponent would likely have been nothing but a bloody smear and the exertion of destroying his imaginary foe was starting to leave the boy breathless and exhausted. Still there was on last exercise Zach planned to engage in. If there was one thing that he learned from Kami, it is that one must maintain a clear mind while in combat. To that end, Zach reasoned there wasn't anything much more mentally stressful then maintaining a hover while under the intense gravity the chamber was producing. Sitting down back on the floor, Zach crossed his legs to sit Indian style and then summoned up his ki energy. The training would serve two purposes, help him manipulate his energy under stress and help him maintain focus while under the same stress. After a moment to direct his energy, Zach lifted off of the floor while still in his seated position, eyes closed in concentration and arms folded over his chest. To the casual observer it looked like the boy was meditating, although in reality he was putting his body and will through hell. His muscles by now felt like burning jelly and with that discomfort it was difficult to maintain his focus. But that was what the exercise was intended to for and Zach's iron will refused to quit, even with the mental alarm bells that he was pushing too hard. At times Zach was pushing so hard that he bumped lightly into the ceiling, but after a few minutes, managed to get into a stable hover in the exact center of the room. He couldn’t maintain it forever though and with his energy supply dwindling, the boy eventually set back down.
Taking a few minutes to breath, Zach then climbed back to his feet unsteadily and trudged over to the control panel. Pressing the 'Off' button, he stood by and felt the heavenly sensation of the machine powering down and all of that intense gravity evaporating, along with the titanic strain it had been putting on his body. Although he was still shaking from the stress, Zach for a few moments felt light as a feather. With the day's major exertion behind him now, he intended to return to his quarters and take a nap, then maybe if he was feeling up to it, take a trip upstairs to the garden. But first, he had to sate his curiosity as to hat might be lurking in the drawers of that dusty old desk outside. Resetting the selection dial to zero, or rather one since even with the machine off, the room was under one G, Zach unsealed the entrance and headed out into the corridor.
