It had been days since Calias had had a good night's rest, what with the whole civil war going on. Things should have gotten better around his home, considering most of the nearby anti-Kold towns had been exterminated. Instead, that just made them launch more attacks, such as now...
It was a quiet, serene night. Sicuaras(similar to cicadas from Earth) were buzzing. There were just a few shops and restaurants in the village with lights still on. It was perfect.
Calias was just climbing onto his bed, feeling tired enough to sleep all week when he sensed three considerable Ki signals. They're still attacking?, he thought. At this hour?
As quick as he could, he jumped out of bed, slipped his armor on, and dashed outside. As if on cue, three Tyber-jins with power levels of two thousand or so each landed several meters from Calias's porch.
"So," he said, "you're seeking to, what, eliminate the highest power?"
"Pretty much," the middle one answered.
Calias laughed. "You know that simply having greater numbers doesn't always help, don't you?"
"Perhaps, but I think it will here."
Immediately, the middle one charged, the other two followed, and the battle began.
The three of them started flurries of jabs, kicks, elbows, knees, you name it from in front, left, and right. Calias was having some fun with them, just dodging and blocking, and wasn't having much trouble with it. They were probably thinking he just didn't have time to attack.
This got boring after about thirty seconds, so it was time to move onto the offensive. When the left one tried to punch Calias, he grabbed his arm, pulled him over his back, and slammed him on the ground. The right one threw an elbow, but Calias dodged, gave him a jab to the face, and made a body blow that sent him out of the fight.
At this point(as you can probably tell), there was only one enemy left. Calias was just throwing casual punches, but the fighter was still struggling to parry them all.
Eventually, Calias just gave him a blast of Ki. Although he was pushed back, the other fighter managed to guard against it and took little damage.
"Tyah!" he yelled as he sent his own Ki wave, but Calias just knocked it away. "Tyah! Ha! Rra!" This time he sent three, but it still yielded the same results.
The man was tired. Apparently, he was on his last leg, because he started growing, his muscles bulging, and tusk-shaped spikes growing on his shoulders and calves. He was transforming.
Five, maybe ten seconds later, he was in his Kemono form, at his maximum power.
"You're finished, now!" he exclaimed right before charging.
The eight-foot-tall juggernaut started working Calias with a series of punches, which were still slow enough to react to but strong enough that they were tiring to defend against. In fact, trying to transform during these circumstances would only give him time to land a blow that would cost Calias the fight, because this guy obviously wasn't going to let him overpower him again.
I have to exploit his lack of speed, Calias thought.
Once his adversary threw another punch, Calias gave him a quick jab and jumped back, far enough that any attempt to catch up with him could result in getting blasted in the face.
"AGH!" the Kemono shouted. Once he recovered, he began charging an energy wave. "Enough playing around!"
The moment he fired, Calias formed a shield and charged for his Barrier Crash technique. It was a good technique to use against a large energy beam. If he were to lose, he was likely only to be pushed back, not so much that the beam would actually hit him since the shield was so strong. If he were to win, the opponent would take a serious blow and get burned/stung.
Anyway, the Kemono was pushing hard, but Calias was pushing harder. With one last good heave, the barrier crashed against the giant, plowing him deep into the forest. Once Calias stopped, the Kemono barreled through just a few more trees, completely drained, and Calias charged for the finishing move.
"Ko...," he said, a ball of Ki forming in each of his hands. "Hai...HAA!!"
Calias thrusted the balls forward and together, a massive beam erasing the Kemono and everything behind him for at least a mile.
As Calias stood, huffing and exhausted, in front of the gargantuan scar that had formed on the land, he felt proud. He had defeated a Tyber-jin in his Kemono form.
After he finished contemplating his victory, he turned around and walked back home to get what sleep he still could.
