The day began just like any other had, with the twin suns of Namek rising into the sky like two yellow eyes watching over the world. Param awoke to his morning meditations, when a dark cloud billowed over the world. It was a sign that the Guru had just died. What did this mean for the people of Namek? That the old fart had finally kicked it, that's what.
What did it mean for Param? Everything he knew was about to change. You see, Param wasn't like all the other Namekians, he had a destiny. A great one at that. He was meant to become the new Guru, which would happen as soon as the old one died. That day had finally arrived right now.
So off he went to the Guru's house, and off the people of Namek went as well. To witness a day that only occured, on average every thousand years.
Param sat on the Guru's throne in his fortress, and was told to vow to the following oaths.
"Do you Param, vow to uphold the 9 tenants of the Guru."
"I do."
"Do you promise to protect the people and their ways, so long as you live. To guide our people as best you can, and judge fairly according to our laws."
"I do."
"Should the time come that the need arises for new Dragon Balls, do you promise to create them to the required specifications, and to protect them from those who would use them for dark purposes?"
"I do."
"Will you shun material desires and physical luxuries as to not be tempted by their powers, and to remain pure of heart and nature."
"I do."
"People of Namek, may I present your new Guru."
A white aura flowed from the world of Namek and enveloped Param, binding him to his promises. He would be unable to break any of the oaths he had made.
Param smiled, and waved to the people. His role as Guru had just begun.
