With a gasp for air and a struggle, Bear Irwin pulled himself out of the water and onto dry land. Beneath him, whatever was left of his spaceship was sinking to the bottom of the Emerald Sea. With a grunt, Bear pulled out a capsule and pressed the button, tossing it onto land. With a puff of smoke, his trusty floating camera appeared, ready to record.
"Heh. So, the autopilot failed. One of the most important things you need to know about interstellar travel: know your spaceship inside and out. I didn't and... well..." He looked out to sea with a forlorn expression. "Good thing I managed to save the camera. Seriously; this camera's worth more money than that piece of junk ever was." He scratched his head. "Note to self: edit this part out in post. The network probably won't want to hear me disparaging their products on air. Keep the part about knowing your spaceship."
He stood up and began to walk, his camera faithfully following behind him, looking over his shoulder. "So, this is Namek. At least, if my glitchy navigation computer was any good. Edit that last statement out. We actually have a lot of information about this planet, thanks to our friendly relationship with them after the war against Frieza and the W.T.O. It's a very stable planet, with almost no tectonic activity, atmosphere that can sustain human life and about the same gravity. However, civilization can often be far away, with large stretches of nothing in between. The terrain is known for being extremely uniform, with few if any discernible landmarks."
He turned towards his camera, holding it in place and looking at it like one would look like their kid. At times like this, maps are invaluable. A good map can mean the difference between hopelessly lost and happily hiking. If you don't have a map, however, don't panic. That's always the most important thing."
Letting the camera go, he scanned the horizon, pointing at the sun. "There. See that?" Responding to his verbal cue, the camera focused on the sun. "If you can track the position of the sun, you can get a sense of your bearings. Remember, the sun always sets to the west." He stopped, putting his chin in his hand thoughtfully. "Wait. Is that true on Namek? I know that's how it is on Earth, but..." He shook his head. "Even if that isn't true, you can at least figure out the time with the sun. Look, if the sun's going down, that means it's approaching sunset."
He smiled, proud of himself for imparting that piece of wisdom. Suddenly, he remembered something from the files he read on Namek, causing him to turn around and see another sun in the sky. "...unless the planet has multiple suns and there's no point in the day when it is comparable to Earth night. Then, time becomes pretty useless. Really, you can't find out anything from anything here."
He sighed, looking up at the sky with arched back. He bellowed "CRUD!" and then, in an angry mutter he said "I'm gonna be doing a whole lotta editing by the time this adventure's done, methinks."
