Another afternoon slowly drifted by on planet Vegeta. Talmyr, the resident Makaioshin of the planet’s mutated rainforest had decided to spend it with a leisurely stroll through the overgrown flora. And oh, was the flora here ever so overgrown? The plants towered high above Talmyr’s head, seemingly weaving together into some sort of grotesque blanket that shielded to forest floor from all but a few scattered patches of sunlight. Talmyr found a certain odd tranquility to it despite all of the mutation in the environment.
It wasn’t just the canopy above that was thick with plant life. Talmyr had to be careful when attempting to make her way through the thicker patches of foliage. She had managed to accidently embed her horns into thick branches and brambles on more than one occasion now. It made her kind of glad that there was nobody around, it would have been a huge embarrassment.
As she continued to make her way across the forest floor, the ground suddenly started to rumble. Talmyr stopped in her tracks as her ears were filled with a loud hissing noise. She spun around in hopes of spotted whatever was causing this ruckus. Her eyes rested on the thick tendril of a plant that was wriggling around wildly. ”What the hell?” Talmyr whispered under breath, trying to figure out what set it off. It was then that she spotted a footprint on said tendril. The demon groaned and smacked a palm to her forehead. Crap… She hadn’t been paying attention to where she was going and stepped on something sentient. Now it was pissed off. So much for her quiet, relaxing walk...
The rainforest continued to rumble as whatever the stepped-on tendril belonged to stirred. A large clump of bushes shook violently before being flattened beneath the plant monster that had finally decided to reveal itself. The mutant had a large, bulbous, rubbery body that sat low to the ground. Numerous small tendrils were growing from the bottom half of it’s body, much like the one that Talmyr had flattened under her foot. A thick stem that was about the size of a small tree trunk was attached to the top of the thing’s body, and easily hit 30 feet in length. The icing on the cake was the person-sized venus flytrap type head at the end of said stem. Judging by the large quantity of drool, at least Talmyr thought it was drool, dripping from the monstrosity’s mouth, it saw her as quite the tasty little morsel.
Talmyr placed her hands on her hips; her foot tapped the ground impatiently as she attempted to size up her opponent. The thing towered stood several times taller than she was. By the position of its head, she would have guessed that it was staring her down if it actually had any eyes. This looked like it would be a tough one, but she wasn’t about to let herself be scared off by some overgrown salad.
”I’m no botanist, but you must be the ugliest petunia I’ve ever seen,” she taunted with a smirk on her slightly tanned face. It chose to respond by snapping it’s jaws, for lack of a better term, and loosing another loud hiss at Talmyr. Oh yes, it was most certainly on now.
This wasn’t the first mutant plant Talmyr had faced; not by a long shot. After all, she lived in a rainforest full of them. She had never seen one quite like this before though. It would most certainly prove to be an interesting fight.
The plant decided it was done waiting around and chose to make the first strike. Its head dove toward her and attempted to snap its jaws around her. Talmyr was too quick for it though, and she leapt to the side with relative ease. It reeled back and darted at her a second time, only to have a repeat of the first attempt. It simply wasn’t fast enough to latch on. Talmyr continued to dance around the venus flytrap style head until she was within striking distance of the thing’s body. She spun around, aiming a twirling kick at it.
What Talmyr hadn’t noticed was that the mutant’s smaller tendrils had changed while they were staring each other down. Each one was now covered in sharp thorns and a layer of tiny spores. Before her kick could connect, the tendrils wrapped tightly around her leg, driving a wall of thorns into her skin. She let out a shriek as pain shot up her right leg before it went completely numb. Thinking quickly, Talmyr managed to wrench it free from the tendrils and immediately shot herself into the air using her ki. Damn it, she had gotten careless. It looks like that plan had gone down the drain. It was time for a new strategy.
Hovering high out of the reach of the snapping venus flytrap, Talmyr decided to try a long range approach to the problem. She fired off several blasts of ki down at the thing. She then proceeded to watch in amazement as the mutant opened its mouth wide and with lighting fast reflexes, catch and swallow each blast with absolutely no adverse effects. What’s more, it still looked hungry. There went strike two…
The feeling in Talmyr’s right leg quickly returned. Apparently the poison spores weren’t meant to last very long. This thing must not have been used to prey that could just fly away like that. Still, those bothersome tendrils were preventing her from getting in close enough to do any sort of damage to the thing. Her ranged attacks were pretty useless as well seeing as how they could be intercepted and eaten. Maybe she should focus on eliminating the thing’s head. It probably wouldn’t kill it since it was just a plant, but it should open the body up to ranged attacks at the very least.
The demon held out her arms in front of her face. Her forearms began to glow with dark red ki before her pair of enhanced katar materialized on them. Talmyr gripped the handles tightly before swooping in at the ferocious mutant. She dodged yet another attempt to capture her in its jaws before stopping a few feet from the base of the stem. ”Yaaaaaah!” Talmyr let out a battle cry as she drove one of her punching daggers through the stem, slicing through it rather cleanly. The mutant’s head and neck toppled over, shriveled up, and turned a sickly shade of brown. That wasn’t so hard after all.
The head may have been gone, but the tendrils still thrashed violently. Was it still alive, or was this similar to what happened to a chicken when you lopped its head off? The neck wound was oozing some sort of viscous green liquid. As Talmyr prepared to deal the final blow, three more heads that were the exact same size and shape of the one she had gotten rid of sprouted out of the wound! ”You’ve gotta be kidding me!” Talmyr shouted in disbelief as she darted out of their reach. It was like this thing had regeneration on steroids!
Well, that hadn’t gone quite like she had planned. Now what? She couldn’t just turn tail and run. How the hell could Talmyr live with herself after having to flee from the big bad houseplant? Not only that, but she wasn’t okay with allowing this thing to roam around as it pleased. She didn’t want it anywhere near her cave. The demon had to end it, but how? The tendrils prevented fighting at close range, the heads prevented attacks from long range, and she didn’t want to deal with any more of them so decapitation was out of the question.
As Talmyr hovered just out of biting range, she noticed the mutant begin to act strangely. It reeled all three of its heads back, and each one spat out a large glob of green goo at her. Thinking quickly, Talmyr dodged out of the way. Her ears were greeted with the sound of slashing, followed by an intense sizzling noise as they hit the forest floor below. Acid? This thing spat acid too!? This was getting ridiculous. ”Charming…” she grumbled in annoyance. It looked like this thing wasn’t going to let her sit there all day and strategize. She had to think of something fast.
Talmyr’s mind raced as she ducked between shots of acid and hungry mutated plant heads. Suddenly, she got another idea! It might be a bit tricky to pull off, but it was the only one she had at the moment. Hopefully it would work out better than her last one. All she needed to do was make this monster fall for it.
The katar on Talmyr’s forearms vanished. She swooped in yet again, stopping midway down the three stems. This time, however, she didn’t attack. All the demon did was focus on avoiding each head as they continuously dove at her. ”Aww, what’s the matter? I’m not too slippery for you, am I?” Talmyr mocked it as she kept ducking and weaving between the stems while it continued its assault. ”It’s too bad. I bet I’m awfully tasty.” She could tell it was getting frustrated. Finally, rather than going in for another bite attempt, the overgrown plant wrapped two of its thick stems around Talmy’s body, pinning her arms to her sides and preventing her from going anywhere. The third stem’s head loomed over her, ready to finally chomp down on its prey.
Talmyr merely gave the plant an arrogant smile. ”Gotcha!” she proclaimed. Her eyes and horns glowed intensely with dark red ki. The young woman opened her mouth wide and quickly looked down at the large body below her. Talmyr’s plan had worked; she had gotten herself between the plants body and all three of its heads. Now they couldn’t possibly get in the way of her attacks and its body was completely unprotected from this range. She shot a large beam of ki from her mouth down at her target. It connected, burning a large hole through the plant’s rubbery exterior. The body appeared to inflate itself before exploding, sending gooey plant matter everywhere.
The stems that had been gripping Talmyr’s form withered away, sending her falling to the ground. She stood up shakily with a disgusted look on her face. She was covered from head to toe in the stuff, and it wasn’t pleasant in the slightest. ”Ugh… Gross…” Talmyr whined. It was all over her clothes, her tail, and her hair was heavily caked in it. The walk had been an eventful one; she had even managed to get a bit of training in. However, now all Talmyr wanted to do was go home. She suddenly felt long overdue for a nice, long bath.
