With his legs tucked under him Ark relaxed, his palms wresting on his knees. Wind blew across the blue plains of Namek, the gusts tussling his dark bang some. The slight whistle in the air as the air rushed around a nearby rock only added to the peacefulness of the moment, his eyes slowly closing. He did not need silence to enjoy his mediation, for silence didn’t always offer serenity, the natural sounds of the world could be much more soothing.
Ark had been on Namek for just over half a year now continuing to spend most of his time out in the plains, it was peaceful here. Controlling his breathing the human starts to slip into a trance, letting his mind wander and delving deeper into his subconscious as he does. He wasn’t seeking anything particular, that wasn’t how he believed mediation should work. Instead he was letting his mind go where it pleased, seeing what it might find on its own.
Still he was not completely unaware of his surroundings so he did not miss the two power signatures that were rocketing towards him. Once appeared to be ahead of the other, but there was no doubt they were coming towards him. Just in case they were not friendly Ark opens his eyes, watching the two dots quickly approaching his location.
Rising to his feet it seems as if they were indeed headed for him, but then the creatures sail right over him. The first was not Namekian and could not have possibly been from this world. It was roughly humanoid in shape, but appeared to be more insect than anything else. Large antennae sprouted from his head, while two large sets of wings propelled it through the air. The creature’s legs were long and bent in the opposite direction compared to a human, each one wending it a three pronged foot. Whatever it was had four arms, one set of them dangling down as it flies while the other clutched something against its chest. Ark’s eyes go wide as he realizes it held a young Namekian in its grasp, the child kicking and squirming in an attempt to get free.
Following the creature was your average Namekian,
determination painted onto his features. Even from the quick glimpse of the two flying overhead it was not hard to discern the second was chasing the first. The child no doubt belonged to the older Namekian. Turning he watches them go, the two quickly starting to shrink as they pull away from him. Ark did not like to get involved in others problems, how was he supposed to judge what side to take? Watching them still he could not shake the feeling this was a little different.
The child had clearly not wanted to be with the insect creature, the human could not ignore what he had just seen.
Lifting into the air he hesitates a couple of minutes longer, the two disappearing in the distance, even if he could still sense them. Taking off after them it would seem that had stopped not so far after disappearing over the horizon, the two signatures now getting closer once more. In the distance Ark spots a hill, a dark dot on its surface, the dark cave entrance standing out against the blue grass. Feeling for the signatures once more it seemed that is where they had stopped.
Touching down just outside the cave he listens for a
moment, hearing some words exchanged deeper in the cave before a battle cry rings out. The war cry gets cut off abruptly though followed by a loud thud. Gritting his teeth Ark rushes into the cave, rounding the corner to see the Namekian that had been trailing the creature slumped against the wall, purple blood pouring from where right arm used to be. Across from him stood the large insect like humanoid, clutching the child in two hands while the others remain stretched out.
The wounded Namekian and other worldly creature did not even compare to the site Ark saw on the ground. Scattered around the cave were several other Namekian children, every single one of them dead. Normally the race had the ability to regenerate from grievous wounds, but the fate that had befallen these was not something they had the capability of regenerating. Each one was a dried up husk, their forms withered and wrinkled. Glancing to the creature that still held the latest child, its long proboscis no doubt the reason for the bodies current states,
This monster had taken the lives of multiple innocent Namekians, children none the less, and it did not seem to be close to stopping. Clenching his fists Ark addresses the creature, not sure if it can even understand him
”Put the child down and surrender, you must answer for the crimes you have committed.”
Chittering sounds are the only response he receives, the insect tossing the child aside as it attempts to speak to him. As its ceases the strange noises its hand snapping up as a thin green beam of Ki shoots from it. Thankfully Ark had his barrier up; due to the situation he had walked in on he is saved from the same fate as the Namekian groaning against the wall behind him. The beam hits him in the shoulder cutting through his jacket, his barrier and into his skin slightly.
Taking note of the cutting power behind that the human drops into a sudden crouch, slamming his palm against the ground to unleash a nova of Ki. The blast would do little more than slide the creature back across the cave, but it also shoves the little Namekian out of harm’s way.
Again the creature sends a blast at him, the human diving into a roll to dodge this blast and closing the distance between them at the same time. Hopping right out of the roll Ark uses his momentum to tackle the creature, slamming to the ground on top of it. The creatures multiple arms grab up for him, but Ark intercepts them driving a fist into two of its elbows, snapping the thin appendages at the joint. The noise that now came from the creatures strange mouth had to be one of pain, it’s other to arms gathering Ki and launching twin blasts at the human holding it to the ground.
Both connect, knocking the human from a top the creature
to roll across the cavern floor. Despite the fact the blasts had connected they did not keep Ark down long, not having had any real power behind them. Already getting back to his feet, the insect rising as well, Ark utilizes his Zanzoken to slam into the creature, ramming it hard against the cavern wall.
Driving multiple blows into the creature’s thorax he keeps it pinned up against the stone, wearing it down before grabbing for its remaining arms. Gripping tightly he tosses it back towards the middle of the cavern. About to offer it the chance to surrender once again he is caught off guard by a sudden blast, his arms lifting to cover his face against the sudden bright flash.
Lowering his arms he has to blink several times to see through the dust that know floated around the cavern, but he was able to see through it enough to see the small crater and what remained of the insect creature.
Standing off to the side was the Namekian that had chased the creature here, having regenerated his severed arm. Breathing heavily he held both of his hands out in front of him, apparently having used a good amount of his remaining energy to unleash that attack.
”I was about to get his surrender, I had him defeated.” Ark truly believed that he had the creature defeated, and hoped that it was indeed about to surrender to him. Of course it was obvious the Namekian had no such intentions.
”The creature deserved no such quarter, he has been terrorizing my people for weeks now.” His tone was not cold, but serious and not leaving any room for debate. It was his village that had been suffering the wrath of this creature for so long, the creature having been stealing the young Namekians in the night.
After a moment of silence between the two Ark concedes the point, not seeing a reason to argue at this point. Besides this was something he had decided to intervene in without any permission or a request to do so. ”Very well, I only wished to help. It does seem this creature showed no quarter to these poor Namekian children. I will bother you no further,” With a warm smile Ark starts to head from the cave, knowing Namekians liked to keep to themselves and take care of their own business.
”I do thank you human…I might have failed here without your assistance.” It was an honest thank you, even though the warriors pride had most likely suffered with his near defeat. Always one to respect others Ark simply nods in return before lifting off once more. Now he could return to his small camp and relax.
