Eva sat on the rooftop, looking up at the night sky. Far above her the stars glinted in space, the bright orbs set up in what the android could only assume was a random array. There were no doubt theories and facts behind the creation of time and space, but none completely explained the process that had made the cosmos as they were today.
The androids creation on the other hand was easy to break down into categories and subcategories. If one wanted to all they had to do was dismantle her and they could take a look at every part that made up her being, each one put in its specific place, the place that had been designed for it. The only exception to that rule was the free will she had been given. It was something her creator had not explained in detail, but she knew that there were no restraints on her decisions. Like any organic creature Eva has the ability to choose for herself.
So far the search for her creator had been fruitless, not a single lead in regards to his whereabouts. Taking some time to think on the building she had taken as her temporary home the android believed tonight was going be the same as the last. Luckily for her that was not what fate had in mind this night, the door of the stairwell that lead to the roof swinging open.
Rising from her seat her first assumption was that someone had stumbled upon her hiding place, and whether it was truly hers or not the android had no intentions of fleeing. Her stance remains casual even as a blade slides from her right wrist, the soft glow of the Ki edged blade easily visible at night. Even as the figure started to move from around the door Eva heads towards it, ready to dispatch the individual if they prove to be a threat.
The man that rounded the door was not what the android had expected. Dressed in civilian clothes the man appeared to be just you average human, a pair of glasses set on his nose. Even though the human was male he was small, just about the same size as Eva herself, no real muscle mass to be found on his frame. Starting to close the door his emerald eyes widen when he realizes how close she is, her one blade extended and ready for use.
"Please, I have come only to speak with you, maybe even help you. You are Dr. Welch's creation are you not?" As he speaks the frail human’s arms lift into the air, showing his empty hands to her so the android would see he is unarmed.
Eva pauses, slightly cocking her head to the side in response to the man's statement. As far as she knew no one but her creator new of her existence, well besides the S.W.A.T. team she had dispatched in the lab several days ago. Suspicion takes over as her eyes narrow, the android making no move to sheath the weapon she had drawn, yet not making an attempt on the man’s life.
"How do you know this?" The cool, emotionless tone of her voice easily conveys to the human that his answer might very well determine his fate.
"I was there three days ago, at the lab." Seeing Eva's narrow ever so slightly the man was quick to continue explaining himself. "I was in the van outside of Dr. Welch's residence, but I have not come here to try and take you in. In fact I have come to offer assistance... in exchange for a request of my own" He had put it out in the open, swallowing hard afterword’s, not sure how she might react. He had entered the lab after she had left to discover the gruesome scene and was well aware of one way the female could react.
Although this man had hidden away in a van instead of trying to assist his companions and he has flinched when first arriving on the roof Eva had to admit he wasn't completely spineless. The fact he mustered enough courage to request an exchange of information in return for something from her did have her curious. With a thought she retracts her blade back into her forearm, putting her hands on her hips.
"Speak then human. Tell me your name and what you can offer me. Do not waste my time." Eva was never really in a rush and time never concerned her, but speaking with humans had already started to bore her, this creature was no different. Hopefully his offer did turn out to be worth listen to him.
"Of course Miss. My name is Mike Sanders, and I am an employ... ex-employee of BioCo. I am sure you are well aware that is the company Dr. Welch worked for. After the little... incident at his lab I was discharged for failing to stop you, the company claimed I was at fault for your disappearance. For years I helped the company cover itself when unsavory events took place and yet they so easily let me go. It is time the public id made aware of what the corporation does behind closed doors. If I can get my hands on some of their file's I can expose them, but the information I need is not so easily accessible. That is where I need your assistance. Now I am offering to pay you for these services because even you cannot get around in this world without any funding, but I can also offer more than that. I overheard the questions you asked the team in the lab, there comlinks caught everything. I am not guaranteeing it, but the same data base I need you to access might very well contain information on Dr. Welch. What do you say? The small man holds his breath, seeming to have come in search of the android as his last hope.
It sounded plausible, but that didn't mean it wasn't an elaborate set up. Several seconds of silence pass between them, the android running different scenarios in her head. In the end it really did not matter if it was a set up, what humans would be able to contain her? A warm smile forms on her face, the android able to mimic the expression perfecy, even if it was completely fake.
"Very well, I shall accept your offer human. I will warn you that if there is any hint of betrayal on your part you shall regret it. Where is this facility? " Eva remembered his name was Mike, but she had chosen to address him without it. Despite his initiative and meager amount of courage he was just a human, one she would not think twice about after their business was done.
Offering a small smile of his own Mike moves away from her, making his way to the eastern edge of the roof, lifting his hand to point. ”Towards the eastern edge of the city there is a medical center, or at least that is how it looks from the street. It is no doubt closed to the public now, but that does not mean the lab under it is empty. The lab itself specializes in Bimolecular science, and should contain information about their procedures for testing new technologies, some of which they do on human test subjects. If your creator truly disappeared I am sorry to say it might be a result of the company’s unsavory practices. Take what other information you will, I only want the results of their testing on humans.”
”Understood. Is the facility automated or should I expect to run into human resistance?” Looking out over the city Eva was sure that locating the facility he was talking about would be easy. There were only so many medical based companies in the city and even fewer on the eastern side. Looking back to the human she awaited his answer, ready to get going.
”You will most likely run into both. There are scientists that work there and due to the sensitive research I am sure there will also be guards. As for automated systems most level four facilities had automated defenses to supplement the human ones. Do not take them lightly.”
With a dismissive snort the android lifts from the roof, not another word leaving her lips. Several yards from the building she pauses, turning her head to look back at the human once more. She did not trust him, who might he run to or contact the moment she was gone? Without so much as a warning Eva turns and rushes the human, his eyes going wide as the android closes the distance with ease. Grabbing a hold of him she slams him up against an assortment of drainage pipes that rise from the roof. It was not hard enough to break them, or seriously injure him, but there was no doubt she was not messing around. Quickly frisking him she finds nothing out of the ordinary the only item that concerns her being his cell phone, which is dashed against the roof. Holding him in place with one hand her other reaches out to rip a pipe free. With ease the android bends it around him, securing the human in place.
”I shall release you when I return.” He starts to respond, but Eva was already turning away from him, once again lifting into the air. Floating lazily for a couple of minutes Eva then takes off, flying full speed for the eastern side of the city. If this facility had anything on her creator’s whereabouts Eva planned to find it.
Several minutes later Eva sets down in the street, her soft soled boots barely making a sound. In front of her was the building she was almost certain was her target the powered down neon sign read "Family Medical a BioCo Facility." They didn't even try to hide their affiliation with the facility, most likely wanting the positive PR. Snorting some the android heads for the door. It was late, the streets were empty as was the building, well at least what could be seen through the windows.
Walking right up to the door Eva drives her fist through the glass panel easily shattering it so that she can unlock the door. Letting it swing open she steps inside, looking around for the alarm system that would no doubt go off momentarily. After a short search she locates the control box towards the back of the room, but strangely enough it was not activated. Pondering that for a moment a small smile forms on her face. This must be the place; they did not have a true security system because in a scenario such as this the last thing the corporation wanted was the local authorities involved. Now to find the entrance to the real research facility.
Heading towards the back of the building the android was not surprised to come across a door marked "Authorized Personal Only Beyond This Point.” Alongside the door a green LED blinked slightly illuminating the control panel beneath it. For most a code was needed to proceed, Mike having mentioned nothing about this. Then again it didn't matter if he knew a code; it was probably blocked or changed after his termination. Looking at the panel a moment longer Eva figured those still in the facility already knew someone was here, stealth not something she was concerned with. Taking a step back the females hand raises, palm facing the door as she fires off a Ki blast, blowing the door into the room beyond.
Steel shatters glass as the door collides with the closest lab bench. The force behind the impact is enough to rip apart the bench as well, the door flipping awkwardly before clattering to the ground. The room Eva now had access too was a lab no doubt, but not the one she was searching for. Scattered around the room, and now the floor, were different stations, each one set up to develop various types of pharmaceuticals. This room too was devoid of life; only emergency lights left on to dimly light the area. Not seeing any other exit the android feels for signatures. Even if people were hidden below her or in some secret room her sensors would be able to pick them up.
As she had started to suspect, there were signatures underneath her. Numerous beings show up, but not one of them had any significant power. Not sure as to where the entrance to this lower level was the android takes the more direct approach. With a twist of her frame Eva slams her fist into the floor of the lab, tile and cement blasted apart from the blow. A second strike followed that blasted several more feet of the same materials aside to reveal steal. Grinning a little now Eva brings her fist down again to bust right through the layer of steel and into the corridor below it.
With little effort the android is able to create an opening large enough for her slender frame to slip through. Dropping down into the hallway below she is not surprised when she is met with resistance. From the ceiling descends two automated turrets both locking onto her as they quickly swivel to get the intruder in their sights. The security system was quick and undeniably accurate, but Eva was faster.
Two arms rise up and two Ki blasts dispatch the automated weapons before they can get a shot off. Eva had not been designed to be aggressive, only to defend herself if need be, but the more destruction she caused the more she found it enjoyable. So when alarms started to sound and heavy footsteps could be heard coming down the hall a playful smirk comes to her lips.
Rushing down the hall, blades sliding from her forearms the android intercepted the security team right as they round the corner, they didn’t know what hit them. The first poor fellow gets a blade driven up under his jaw and through his skull. Not pausing Eva spins as she yanks the blade free to slash across the next man’s throat, his cry of pain turning into a gurgling noise as he stumbles backwards. The last of the group drops his weapon and runs, taking off back down the hallway from which he had just come. Pointing her index and middle finger at the humans back she fires a beam at his fleeing form, the concentrated Ki burning right through his back and erupting out his chest.
As the man drops to the floor Eva notices a woman standing down the hall, clutching a data pad to her chest. The female was shaking, the android not understanding why, until she glances down at herself. When her blade had sliced through the man’s neck blood had sprayed onto her form, speckling her in red. Seeming to overcome her fear as the android pauses to look herself over the woman turns and runs, typing away at her data pad. Rushing through the door at the end of the hall the door slams shut behind her. Like that was going to stop her?
Strolling down the hallway Eva was sure that the information she had come for was either on that data pad or the scientist would know. So sure of herself was the android that her surprise was genuine when a panel on the wall slides open and a figure steps out. Turning to face this new threat she was not fast enough this time, a fist slamming into her chest. The blow lifts the android right off her feet and sends her slamming back against the opposite wall her body leaving a dent in the stel. Feeling a hand on her throat she then gets lifted from the floor, her feet soon held several feet above it.
Finally able to get a good look at what it was attacking her, the android found herself a little confused. The creature that held her up must have been a human at one point, but there had been obvious modifications. It was dressed in similar body armor that the guards had been dressed in, but in multiple places it looked like the armor had been fused into its flesh. If that wasn’t enough there were different wires and hoses that seemed to be worked into the creature’s body, strange fluids running through the tubes, almost seeming to have a pulse of their own.
It did not seem to have a power signature, not one that the android was able to read. Holding her body up with ease it possessed decent enough strength, its other hand pulling back to fry and drive a fist into her stomach. Lifting her leg Eva blocks the punch, her shin instead taking the blow as she then kicks out with her other leg. The kick catches the monstrosity right under the chin, snapping its head back and causing it to stumble backwards. Dropping back to her feet she wastes no time going on the offensive.
Sending a blast in for the creatures face in the hopes of temporarily blinding it Eva then lowers her shoulder, driving in hard against the machine. Shoving with her powerful legs her smaller body drives it back and through the closest wall. Once through the wall a heave sends the thing flying across the room she had forced it into, scientist scattering before them. Hitting a table it flips and slams to the ground, but is quick to get back to its feet. Leveling its gaze at her, two beams shoot from the bio-android’s eyes, aimed for her chest.
Staggering from the shot to her chest she was not ready when the creature grabs a hold of her head. Gripping her hair tightly it turns and drives her head down through one of the lab tables, smashing it right through the solid surface. Not letting go it yanks back and tosses her across the room, her deceivingly heavy body slamming down hard onto the floor.
Blinking several times Eva could hear its footsteps coming towards her, a plan forming in her head. Lying on the ground as if she was still stunned she waits for it to grab her. Grabbing her head and lifting her up as it had before it was exactly what she had wanted. Her right arm snaps up her blade extending as it slices into the creatures chest.
The attack did not have the desired effect, as the bio-android just looks down to the blade then starts to tighten its grip. Feeling the pressure mounting on her skull Eva redoubles her efforts, her other arm lifting up with its blade extended to drive into the creatures skull. At first it seemed as if this attack did not work, but the pressure ceases to increase on her skull, but the bio-android does not drop to the ground. Swinging up with her arm, her blade severs the thing’s arm so she can drop back to her feet. Prying the hand from her head she tosses it aside, glancing at the now inactive creation before moving around it.
Once back in the hallway the android turns towards the door that had been her original objective before she had been attacked. Getting up to the door she pauses to look it over seeing it is thicker than the one on the floor above. Sensing the woman on the other side of the door, perhaps leaning against it as she tries to overcome her shock Eva pulls her fist back to punch through the door. Her hand rips through before bending at the elbow to grab the woman by the throat.
”Open the door and I shall not kill you, I am simply come for information.” Fingers tighten on the human’s slender throat, cutting off a good amount of her air. There was no room for debate in her tone. Surprisingly she was giving the girl a chance for if the scientist did not open the door Eva would just force it open herself.
Seconds later the female gasps out the code to open the door, Eva’s hand letting go and pulling back through the hole she had made in the door. Entering the code she smiles as the door slides open. Stepping in past the shaking human the android walks strait over to the monitor in the room. Leaning over her finger set to work on the keyboard, any passwords she needs easily forced from the trembling scientist.
It does not take her long to find the information she had been looking for, the logs about trials they had done on human subjects, not all of them voluntary. On top of that she also copies over the security footage of her scuffle with the bio-android. Of course it contained images of her, but she looked the hero defending herself against the creature. Uploading the files onto a portable hard drive Eva then sets to work on searching for her creator. Quickly the android would get frustrated as she discovers that most the of data had to do with the company’s bio-android experiments.
Grinding her teeth some she stands up, almost deciding to leave the data behind instead of returning it to Mike Sanders. Heading towards the door Eva pauses one last time to glare at the female scientist ultimately deciding to let her keep her life. Moving down the hall she would end up under the hole she had created before. Launching up through the hole and right out of the building above the android takes off, rocketing back towards the rooftop in which she had left the human.
Touching down on the roof the male seems relieved that she had returned, the pipe wrapped around him no doubt uncomfortable. Walking towards him she holds up the hard drive, but the frown on her face shows her disapproval.
”I found what you wanted, but there was nothing about Dr. Welch.”
”Well I am sorry, but I did not promise you would find anything.” It was obvious he was nervous, but luckily her anger had already been played out on the bio-android. Grabbing the pole she yanks it off of him and tosses it aside, her hand coming forward to offer him the hard drive in exchange for the payment he hard promise. Once that was done she would glare at him.
”Do not bother me again human, I can promise you it will not end the same way this night has.” Watching him for, her hand coming up to silence him when he attempts to speak Eva was glad when he was gone. Letting out a sigh she knew she needed to clean the blood from her, but at the same time she found herself distracted… exactly what was it she had fought in that lab. Looking at the zeni he had given her she snorts some, at least the night had not been a complete waste of time.
(Zeni please, sorry it was a bit on the long side!)
The androids creation on the other hand was easy to break down into categories and subcategories.
