Things started off like any other day. Eona awoke early, the dreams of a paradise just slipping away from her memory as she did. She dressed quickly, made her way down to the river and walk through it. By the time she made it back to the school, the sun had just risen and students were beginning to awake. She went through her morning chores. Cooking breakfast for the students. Doing whatever laundry needed to be done. Tending to the plants before the day got too hot. Everything was normal, simple. Until suddenly, the clouds rolled in and the sun was temporarily blocked. Rain came down harsh and unforgiving, a freak storm that no one could predict. Eona was alone in the kitchen, preparing lunch. Things were so simple, normal, quiet, until pain exploded in her body. It felt like she was on fire, like lava had replaced her blood. She fell to the floor, convulsing, trying to scream. But no sound came out, no air entered her lungs. The storm covered up the sounds of her thrashing, her strangled cries. The tears that ran down her cheeks burned, her nails dug at her chest, her heart feeling like fire engulfed it. It was only when the storm finally stopped that the pain ended and darkness took over.~*~*~*~
She awoke moments later, her body heavy, but her mind clear. Everything had come back to her. Her life in the Water Court. Her horrifying death five thousand years ago. Her time in heaven. It was like a veil had been lifted and with the pain, came the clarity.
"She's awake."
Eona's eyes snapped open, sitting up quickly. Three woman stood before her. A young girl with white-blond hair and white eyes. A woman, an older version of the girl. And a crone, the eldest of the three. Even with her now-white hair, Eona knew she would have looked just like the two when they were younger. Each wore dresses of pure black, simple save for the two silver crescent moons embroidered in the center of their dresses. The moons were back to back, the symbol of the Fates. At once, Eona knew that these could only be those very same woman.
"You're the Fates..." she said, bewildered. The eldest rolled her white eyes.
"What else would we be girl?" she snapped. The woman laid her hand on the crone's back before standing and offering her hand to Eona. The girl took it, standing and looking at the three.
"Do you know why we're here, child?" she asked, looking down at her. Even though the words stuck in her throat, Eona forced them out.
"To take me back..." she replied. The little girl nodded.
"Your borrowed time is up... Your memories have been restored and with it, your end in this world," said the child. Eona knew it was true. She was dead, she had no place in the world of the living. There was no pleading, no praying for more time, a second chance at the full life she had had snatched from her. Twice now. But all she could say was this: "There's people I want to say goodbye to...I just can't leave without them knowing why." The crone huffed while the woman nodded.
"You may right them a letter each. But be quick," she said. Eona nodded and raced to her room. Quickly, she grabbed a pen and paper and began to write.Dear Master Jorlaxl,
I'm sorry I wont be able to say goodbye in person. The Fates are giving me only a short time to write these letters. I wanted to say thank you, for finding me all those months ago. For giving me a home, for helping me. For everything. I'll never be able to repay you. I want you to know that I remember who I am now. My name is Eona Rainsworth. I was a Duiecite on Nor in the Water Court. Five thousand years ago, I died. I don't know why I was brought back, or brought here of all places, so far from my home. But I'm glad I was. Thank you again, for all you've done. I'll be watching over you eternally.Hope I don't see you too soon,
EonaPS: If you see Drexx, can you make sure he gets the other letter? Thank you...
Setting that letter aside, she began the other...Dear Drexx,
I'm afraid this is the last you'll hear of me. I regret not being able to see you again, or give you the kiss I wanted to. You see, my time here has come to an end. The Fates have come to collect me. It is only by their generosity that I am able to write these letters. You see, I remembered who I was. My name is Eona Rainswoth, a Duiecite from the Water Court of Nor. Five thousand years ago, I died there. I wont tell you the details of my death, for I don't wish for you to remember me that way. I pray you stay safe and well. Give my love to Dale and Mia. I'll be watching over all of you.I hope I don't meet you soon,
Eona
"It's time, child," said the woman. Eona turned to see all three of them waiting patently. With tear filled eyes, she nodded and set both letters side by side on her desk. Taking one last look around the room, she reached out and with a heavy heart, took the woman hand. Calmness and serenity engulfed her as her eyes closed. Clouds covered the sun once more. But once gone, so were the four. The only things remaining the two letters.
I don't expect PL or zeni for this. just wanted to give her story and ending. <3
