“Forgive my interruption but before Master makes his decree I would like to speak.”
The plump pink kai with cheery squinted eyes and a kind smile spoke up. He had sat idly as his self-proclaimed rival and the youngest of the kais, the only one to not have been born of the golden fruit, argued over the fate of the world. However he believed that his opinion should be heard, for it was one of his worlds at stake.
“Kasai as always you are belligerent and thick headed in the pursuit of your goals. More times than not I find myself disagreeing with you for I prefer the gentle hum of peace to the agonizing screams of war. However I find myself agreeing with you, albeit only to a certain degree. I aspired to be a protector not a watcher. I’ve trained for centuries so that I may one day have the honor and privilege of being a cardinal kaioshin.”
The chipper disposition of the kindly kai had contorted to a serious tone and an adamant stare off into the stars. In actuality he was staring directly at Earth. He had studied his section of the stars, memorizing the location of each planet for which he was responsible.
“Like Kasai I too have seen the unbearable heat of life or death battle. I believe we should intervene if for no other reason than that the lives of millions are at stake. Innocent people whose only crime was to share a planet with beings light years ahead of them in power are dying for no other reason than because they are in the vicinity of these people.”
Letting out a sigh Heiwa looked to Baka then paused on Kasai who was punching his palm and mimicking giving the rotund kai what he refers to as a “knuckle sandwich.” Jishin was busy looking at his reflection in a pool of water only a few feet away. Finally his eyes rested upon his sensei, the Sword Saint, Supreme Kai, Kensei.
“Master I ask that if we don’t intervene then I be allowed to do so alone. I know my power alone may not be able to turn the tides but I wish to help in any way I can. I could teleport entire populations out of harm’s way. Please Master, allow me to help, I need to tend to my people. I’d rather die a protector than live as a watcher, please sir.”
His words were true. With every life lost under his watch a pain strikes his chest, urging him to his duty. A duty he feels he cannot deny any longer for the pains were becoming too much to bear.

“Kasai as always you are belligerent and thick headed in the pursuit of your goals. More times than not I find myself disagreeing with you for I prefer the gentle hum of peace to the agonizing screams of war."
Kasai's blood began to boil slightly at the idea of his rival out right disrespecting him in front of their esteemed mentor. However before Kasai was able act Heiwa continued on with his statement.
"However I find myself agreeing with you, albeit only to a certain degree. I aspired to be a protector not a watcher. I’ve trained for centuries so that I may one day have the honor and privilege of being a cardinal kaioshin. Like Kasai I too have seen the unbearable heat of life or death battle. I believe we should intervene if for no other reason than that the lives of millions are at stake. Innocent people whose only crime was to share a planet with beings light years ahead of them in power are dying for no other reason than because they are in the vicinity of these people.” Heiwa finished.
Kasai could not believe his pointy green ears. It was the first time in centuries that the two of them had seen eye to eye and he had was actually surprised that it would happen at this given moment.
"As Heiwa stated Dai-sensei, we have trained long and hard in order to become the guardians of our sectors. To protect those that could not protect themselves, to train warriors to fight on our behest. But this council of kais has no warriors to fight in our name, we are too new to the Heavens to have any. So in order to save millions and billions of innocent lives that will be caught in between two titans." Kasai said as he felt like he was providing a valiant battle speech.
"We can intervene before they fight, save millions of lives and bring peace to the gala-" Kasai started.
However before he was able to finish a spike of power rippled through the air and then pain shot through Kasai's chest. He searched the sky for the source and to his horror it was from Earth. Even though the Cardinals were given their own galaxies Dai Kensei had taught each to be aware of all surroundings. And the pain Kasai was feeling could only be a direct result of battle on Earth.
"We are too late..." Kasai stammered.
His mind began to search the area he could feel Suki's energy but he could feel an energy like none other in the entire galaxy. He could only assume that someone had finally been able to break the barrier of Super Saiyan, and the two had finished their battle.
"The battle is over and thousands of live have been decimated..." Kasai said solemnly.

Kensei remains silent throughout the whole debate, allowing his so-called guardians to argue with each other. Are any of them truly ready for the task of being guardian of such a massive part of the realm? He ponders, resting his right hand on his sword and closing his eyes. Kasai and Heiwa both wished to intervene in the fighting, Baka wished to allow the living realm to sort itself out. Jishin hadn't been able to get a word in. Kensei could sense everything that was happening on Earth, and in all honesty he was not worried.
His subordinates, however, were irritating him. He lifts his hand from the hilt of his sword and presses his forefinger against his neck. A pulse of energy resounds through his throat, and with that he speaks, his voice amplified;
"ENOUGH!" He booms, his face twisted in anger. "I expected better of you all! Do you not realise your duties?" He shakes his head from side to side.
"Above all, you are here to WATCH. When the time is right, we will GUIDE and TEACH the mortal beings our ways, and force them to grow stronger, faster, harder. We must be tough on them, or else they will never be able to do anything for themselves." He closes his eyes, before rubbing the centre of his forehead. "If we are ever to directly intervene, it is because their is a threat which could threaten life itself."
The Dai Kaioshin shakes his head. "The more enemies of good their are, the stronger they will grow. I know of an enemy that only mortals can defeat, and they need to be strong enough to match them. If we ever intervene unnecessarily, we could stop them from growing as strong. If a promising soul dies, we can train him here, give him the tools to strength and show him the road, but mortals must take it alone!"
He finishes and takes another breath, instantly reverting back to his calm state. So what if thousands die? It's not as if they cease to exist, the Kaio knew this better than anyone. If something threatened life, no, the fabric of the universe itself... well, that was something else.
And something out there did.

Kasai turned violently breaking his focus from Earth and the new power that had been reborn into the galaxy to face the anger twisted face of his mentor. Dai Kensei's voice boomed surely catching all of the guardian's attention, it brought back memories of all of the lessons that Dai Kensei had tried to teach to Kasai but to his chagrin Kasai never seemed to listen. Even now it appeared that Dai Kensei was beginning to doubt he assignment of Kasai to the Western Guardianship. Kasai could sense it in his words and his face.
Kasai let Dai Kensei finish and then recompose himself before even attempting to talk to his mentor. But his words hung in the air and resonated in Kasai's head. He harkened back to all of the lessons that Dai Kensei tried to impart into Kasai on patience and for once Kasai actually became quiet. He would no doubt have his own problems with all of the Guardians in the foreseeable future and perhaps even his mentor. But he would always defer to his wisdom on subjects because of the enemies within the kaioshin that would love to see Dai Kensei fail, which he had experienced first hand, for that sake he would try and keep in line even for a little bit.
"Sensei..." Kasai paused as he considered his words, "Perhaps you are right and that we are simply overreacting to the situation. And that several years of peace may be lying in the future but even you must see the waves that are on the horizon. This will be a calm before the storm, a very violent storm that will rip this galaxy at its very seems. Could this be just another mortal affair? Sure. Could it be something else? Sure. I will do as you ask and watch. But I must say that without agents of our own to fight on our behalf we will never be able to help without intervening. No one worth training has died recently. Perhaps that will change. But..." Kasai paused again sensing that he was over stepping his bounds by speaking to his sensei like this but if he did not say this now he doubt he ever would.
"I will watch and wait for someone to train. To watch for something that will threaten life itself. I will always refer to your wisdom on subjects because of how much respect I have for you but I worry sometimes that by just watching that you will not be able to see the time to act..." Kasai trailed off.
As he finished he sat back down on the ground with his arms and legs crossed. He figured he was about to get chewed out by his teacher but perhaps the words would ring some sound of truth to Dai Kensei somehow.

Jishin was an ego caught up in the whirlpool of other egos. They were bickering and fighting and he was staring at his reflection in a pool of water. Heiwa and Kasai were agreeing to intervene, Baka seemed to want to have the mortals settle things themselves, he himself… Jishin didn’t know what to make of the mess in the universe. He thought everyone was better off watching and waiting.
His master confirmed what he had been thinking. He also thought it would be better off to watch and wait. The mortals on earth? Well it was their problem and they would have to face it or die, though death was most certainly not the end. If they died, the kaios could train them and send them back stronger than ever, problem solved.
Until he received a student Jishin wasn’t sure what he was supposed to be doing. He had been granted the spot of Southern Kai, and hadn’t really done anything with it. He felt that he may be letting his master down and that thought made him sad.
“Is there anything we should be doing that we’re not Master?” He said, shocking everyone as he hadn’t spoken in a while. “I have no one to train yet, and so I’m left wondering what my duties are. I’ve been watching over my quadrant, but there has been little else for me to do.”
Jishin bowed his head.
“I’m not sure I’m living up to the position, as I feel I’ve done nothing with it.”

Heiwa listened to his master berate him, taking it without word. Kasai went on to speak, questioning the master further, which could prove a most dangerous road. Then Jishin spoke and his words rung true with the pink protector. It made him think everything over and he let a pause sit for a moment as he put his thoughts together.
“Master, Kensei, I apologize for questioning your wisdom. I see that the events on Earth have resolved themselves, as you predicted they would. My eagerness is a result of having done nothing, sensei. For years upon years you have trained me so that I could one day become a cardinal kaioshin and protect the people. When you told me I was to become the North Kai my heart leapt with joy. I wish only to help and protect the inhabitants of my quadrant, so forgive my brashness. It is my honor to have this position but I know not what to do. All I can do is watch and be tortured by what I cannot change. I echo Jishin’s words, is there anything we can do? Or must we only sit and wait for pupils? I will respect your wished, whatever they may be.”
Day in and day out he looked off his planet, scanning the stars for trouble, but now he must also scan for potential pupils to help save the innocents of his galaxy. If only observing and training would help the people of his galaxy the most then he would stay his hand. He couldn’t allow his own selfish need to protect and save could not come overcome the greater good.
