3 days, 20 hours, 17 minutes and 32 second…
That was how long it had been since her creator had left the lab. It was not out of the ordinary for him to be gone for the better part of the day, but multiple days in a row was unprecedented, at least without informing her. Eva had no qualms with being left alone; the android always used the time to further educate herself on various topics, trying to gather as much information as she could. Her current concern was for her creator, Jordan should have returned by now. Despite her unease with his absence she would remain in the lab as she had always been instructed to do, told she was not permitted to leave.
Through her research in the labs databases and others she could reach through the system the android was well aware of the world outside, even if she had not seen it with her own eyes. There were endless pictures she had seen, all of them cataloged in her memory banks. Eva had complete trust in her creator and he had told her he would return, so she would wait, even if it was past the time he stated he would return. The android would start to delve into the computers database again when her perceptive sensors pick up movement outside of the lab door.
Not having to turn her head at all she listens…heavy booted footsteps…multiple sets of them were gathering near the door. Soft whispers would follow, words she could not make out, but the tone of them alone would give away they were words of strategy…trying to be kept quiet.
”Computer, deactivate lab lighting.’ The labs system, voice activated, would comply, the entire lab going dark minus the blinking of LED’s on various hardware.
Silently rising from her chair Eva moves towards the center of the lab, her sensor enhanced body not requiring light to understand its surroundings. Facing the door there would be more quiet discussion from those outside, before what sounded like something be stuck to the door. The voices then disappear and silence followed…then an explosion of sound and light from the hallway. The plastic explosives that had been placed on the door would not obliterate it, but does blow away a decent amount of the area surrounding the electronic lock that had been in place.
Standing in the darkness Eva would watch as humanoids, dressed in black, armored attire flood into the room, half a dozen in all. It wouldn’t take long for the goggles they wore of to light up with a faint green glow, a tell tale sign of night vision. Once activated it was impossible to miss the woman standing in the middle of the room, red lights clustering on her chest, six rifle barrels zeroing in on her.
”Do not move Miss, lift your hands up where we can see them.” A slight pause follows as if they were waiting for her to comply, which she would not. ”This is your second and final warning, let us see your hands or we will be required to use force.” Eva’s hands were resting at her sides, plenty visible, but it seemed that was not good enough for these men. Based on the fact they had weapons drawn and had forced their way in the android had no intention of complying with them. When she does not lift her hands in submission the man that had spoken would lower one hand from his rifle to take something off of his waist. Aiming it at her stomach his index finger pulls the trigger of the device, two small prongs slamming into her stomach, catching and starting to discharge an electrical shock.
Dr. Welch had created Eva in his daughters image, but his fear of losing her a second time had altered the personality the android had been given. Although not outwardly violent, she had been programmed to protect herself even if that came at the expense of others. So far in her existence the android had only interacted with her creator, a man she had trusted with all her being. This, however; did not mean she had no perspective on the human race or others for that matter, having access to her creator's databases allowed her to study the other races. Through this self education she had come to realize that most individuals did not meet the high standard she had set based on her perception of her creator. These men that now leveled weapons at her and even fired one were beneath Eva, they would not be detaining her.
The android could feel the electricity from the taser on her abdomen, her sensors able to pick up the shock, but it caused her no real pain. The weapon was designed to disable a human, the charge it packed not enough to overload her system. Glancing down at the two prongs stuck into her stomach, her body encased in a layer of living human tissue she found the tingling sensation strange. It was a unwelcomed sensation and the fact he had fired upon her angered the android some, she had done nothing wrong besides not listening to the orders of a man she did not know.
Casually reaching down Eva yanks the prongs from her core, not paying much attention to the six men in the room. They had not moved, her sensors would have picked it up, and she knew the exact positions they were in. Their reaction to the ineffectiveness of the taser would be to level all of their guns at her chest again, the lasers clustering towards its left side, where a human’s heart would be.
Eva could hear the man speaking again, but she wasn’t really listening to his words. It was no doubt one last warning before they opened fire, his statement again requesting her surrender. Seeing the dots hovering on her chest the android had come to the conclusion that there would be no negotiation here. Whoever these humans were they had only given her two options, surrender or be shot.
”Re-activate lighting.” On the androids command all of the lights in the lab would flash back on. Momentarily blinded by the sudden flare on their night vision the intruders open fire. Eva was and android though, a machine created in the image of a human. The advanced computer that she had in place of a brain was faster then the latter, her body already in motion as the rifles begin to shoot.
Eva was not violent by nature, or through her programming, but she was designed to protect herself and her creator. The moment these men had forced themselves into the lab and leveled weapons at her they had unknowingly crossed a line with the android. Her actions that would follow were not personal in the least, but the result would not be pleasant.
Unleashing her full power she would close in on the closest human before the initial flare on their night vision equipment clears. Grabbing for his shoulder with one arm her other would drive up towards his stomach, but not be strike him with her fist. Right before her hand slams into his armored stomach Eva deploys one of her blades, the Ki enhanced edge easily cutting through his body armor, flesh, bone and then his armor once more as it rips from his back.
With a quick spin Eva yanks the blade free, letting the dying man drop to the ground. The momentum of the spin takes her to the next closest human, the android simply continuing her twirl so that she can bring her blade right across his abdomen, the blade again cutting through anything that gets in its way. He drops his weapon as his hands clutch for his stomach, his entrails spilling from the large slash her blade had left.
By now the remaining members of the team could see once more, their goggles having adjusted to the light. With two of their comrades dying on the floor there were no words needed between the parties as they again move to shoot her. The hand without a blade extended grabs for the next closest human, grabbing his rifle so that she can pull it out to the side. Again her right arm, the blade now soaked in blood, would cut upwards, taking the man’s arm at the elbow. He would scream of course, the noise falling on deaf sensors as Eva grabs onto him, yanking him in front of her as the other three start to fire, using his armored body as a shield.
Crouching with his body held in front of her the majority of the fire is absorbed by his body, some making it around his armor, but most stopped by the gear he wore. Deactivating the blade on her right arm, the weapon sliding back into her forearm, her now free hand yanks the gun from the severed arm on the floor. As she gets back to her feet she lifts the human up into the air, the android not needing to strain at all to do so.
With a snap of her arm Eva launches the man through the air towards the one that had addressed her before. It wouldn’t look as if she had put much force behind it until they collide, both of them tumbling backwards in a heap. This would create a short window of surprise for her; the other two humans shocked to see this small female so easily toss a full grown man in body armor across a room.
With precision that only a machine could posses the rifle she had rises towards the man to the left and fires a quick burst, three shots, all hitting him in the face, easily shattering his goggles and taking his life The second of the two still standing would suffer the same fate, soon on the ground with his comrade. That left only one; the human that had addresses her and asked for her surrender before tasing her.
Approaching this man she watches as he shoves the other human off with a determined grunt. He didn’t seem bothered by the death of the rest of his team, perhaps he was just to hocked up on adrenaline to let it depress him. Hopping to his feet the man swings his gun around to level it at her, but it would be stopped cold as her hand grabs onto it. The human was straining to try and overpower her, but it was all in vain, he couldn’t hope to understand the strength she possessed.
”What are you?” The question gave her pause. What did he mean what was she? She was Eva-01 or simply Eva for short. She was an android designed in the image of her creators daughter and even wore a heart shaped pendant on a chain around her neck that had belonged to his daughter. The android held no delusions that she was her creators daughter, she wasn’t, but still it was strange to be asked such a question.
Having taken pause to consider the question Eva was almost caught off guard by the long knife that slashed at her face. The androids reaction time was impeccable though, her right hand snapping up and the blade in her wrist extending again to intercept the blade.
”Clever human. I understand why you were the leader of this group. Why have you come here? Do you know where Dr. Welch has gone?” In response he would drive his booted foot up into her knee, normally an effective tactic with a steel toed boot…if he had been fighting a human. There was no point in questioning this man, he would not tell her anything. With about as much care as a human swatting a gnat the android suddenly grabs his head and gives it a violent twist to the side, a loud pop echoing through the lab as his neck snaps.
Letting him drop to the ground she glances around, her eyes drawn to the blood still on her blade. Eva had never killed anyone before, but humans and other races had been doing it for as long as history had been recorded. There was no remorse for what she had done; they had in fact initiated the combat while she responded in the way she had been programmed to, with brutal efficiency.
Bending down some Eva wipes her blade along the man’s pants, cleaning off the blood before sheathing it in her forearm once more. Six bodies surrounded her now, others would no doubt come looking for them. Someone had sent them, most likely BioCo. Stepping over to the main lab consul her fingers blur over the keyboard as she access’s the system. Seconds later the screen flashes, a message scrolling across it. System data dump ready, enter password to finalize decision.
Without another thought the android enters the password, the system quickly starting to wipe itself. Glancing one more time around the room she heads towards the blasted door, knowing she could not remain here. The data dump would delete all files and fry all the equipment, except her of course. Stepping out of the lab she enters her creator’s house for the first time in her life. There was no interest in his house though, Eva strolling right towards the first door she sees. Shoving it open her eyes took a fraction of a second to adjust to the bright sunlight outside, a black van parked in the driveway as if it belonged there.
As she sets off she had no idea that the seventh member of the team was stationed in the van, watching her casually walk away from the scene that would soon be discovered. Eva had no idea where to start, but her search to find her creator had begun.
