Gene stood atop the mountain that housed the lab where he had been birthed, impatient eyes fixed on the horizon. The sun was setting, a sight of great beauty that served to fill the bio-android with a sense of pride. He had been created with a greater awareness of the intrinsic beauty that nature possessed, and a spectacle such as this was one of the most spectacular nature had to offer. Gene smiled as he opened his senses to the energy of the living creatures around him, each one burning like a candle against the oncoming night. Those simple creatures were his to protect, each and every single on them, no matter how small. Yet they did not know this and did not even possess the mental capacity to appreciate the protection he offered them. They merely continued living their simple little lives. In a way Gene admired and pitied them. No purpose to their lives beyond just living.
With that thought a burning feeling suddenly welled up in his chest, causing him to snape out of his quiet contemplation and close his mind to the multitude of energy signatures. It was the same feeling that had drawn him back to earth after his brief trip into space. It was a reminder that he was destined for greater things than being a silent watcher, or a simple dweller of the forests. He was designed -No- destined to become a Perfect being, a mighty protector of the planet he called home. He was to be the one who guarded humanity against any threats, internal or external. And if this required him to be a bit forceful in educating them, then so be it. Their descendants would thank him for it. Everything that he did, he did for the good of humanity, no matter how cruel it would seem to them. But such avenues of thought were somewhat restricted to him now, as the prime concern on his mind was gathering enough strength to become Perfect. All other things would have to wait until then.
Gene sprang down the side of the mountain, using his inbuilt ability to fly to bring his descent to a slow crawl as he neared the ground and land softly as a feather. He turned and took one last look at the place where he had spent his formative years before sprinting off into the dark woods. The burning desire to become complete resonated through his entire body, filling him with excited energy. He didn't know what to do, or where to start first, but the Road to Perfection would be a long one, and he couldn't waste one more second!
