General Threads

Okay, as it is in the title I wanted to hit the topic of general threads. As above general threads will get less than training threads. Okay that's fair no disagreeing there, but I want to really talk about the significance of general threads and how bonus should be applied with certain general threads.

Firstly, I would like to give two examples of general threads. One, being graded on a normal level and one that should be graded with perhaps a bonus no matter how big or small.

EX.1 { wodresurrection.proboards.com/thread/6146/deep-thoughts }

It is a simple thread about what Shin has done for the people of the Eastern Quadrant. No bonuses are needed here as it is fairly simple although some could argue it shows how he cares for all living beings and so on, but it would be a weak argument as this is a simple general thread.

EX.2 { wodresurrection.proboards.com/thread/4887/stay-boliko-rensou-amaranth }

This second one is an incredibly long read for being just two pages long. However, this is the perfect example of a general thread that shows character development. It hits relationships of many forms from friendship to lovers and anything in between. I had to dig back before the reboot, but it was well worth it. Example one is again simple and has nothing to do with the growth of Shin in any obvious way so no bonus would be needed in the grading of that thread. Example two however has more than enough character growth/development to be graded and have pl gains that of a training thread.

I feel that more general threads will be created than training threads due to the fact that general threads are needed in order to show major character development. There is only so much development your character can do in a 100 percent training thread. Tis why most training threads can be labelled general threads because at some point the training has to stop in order to show the growth or developments of relationships and special bonds between to characters.

This thread is not here to serve a purpose of undermining the current grading system or even destroy it and have it rebuilt from the ground up. The purpose of this thread is to show the true significance a general thread has when dealing with characters. A good story should always be treated a wee bit better than a simple thread. A good story plus great character development or any decent character development should be treated even better. Old characters such as Boliko, Rensou, Virion, Suki, Guerin, Toshio, Zach, Serori, Amaranth{Ammy}, Yuumaru, Nam, Basna, Orenji, Sohko, and many others who were powerhouses in the old WODR did not have plenty of Training threads to get the power they possessed. They gained there power through what we call general threads. They have made readers cringe and be put on the edge of their seat with the general threads and battle threads they've created. I dare you to find a Suki vs Boli or Suki vs Nam thread and say it wasn't magical. I also dare you to find a thread with Rensou telling of the internal struggles he faces and not see the magic inside of it.

These are WODR Legends and always will be. Those characters aren't separated by if they belonged to one person because whether or not one person controlled one or two the characters still had there own lives and were separate. Again, I'm not trying to make the grading process seem wrong or out of place. I'm not even calling for a tweaking of the current grading system. I'm just calling for threads of great value whether training or not be graded for what they are, and that's great threads that tell a story and captivates the reader no matter how much it does so. Everyone's opinions on what makes a great thread is different and that's understandable. However, I challenge you to find one thread from the characters mentioned above, the WODR Legends, and find a thread that doesn't tell a story and make you want to see more.

Just had to get that out of my system. If I had offended anyone I truly apologize. I simply just didn't want general threads being disregarded in the future. Now, I can breathe a sigh of relief as I've gotten that out of me. WOOT! -=takes deep liberating breath-=

I have no idea how the old grading process went, especially since the old staff all did it differently. But I can assure you that when it comes to general threads with some really awesome reads, character development, and things people really put alot of thought and effort into, they are graded much higher than other general threads of less quality.

Quality matters. Quantity helps too though, but we look at both when grading. I'm not sure if I can disclose any info on the grading process beyond that, but I can assure you that we do keep what you are talking about in mind already.
