Kris paced back and forth atop the large platform that made up the lookout... Him and Kami were in the process of retrieving different fighters to help with the situation Suki introduced to Earth. The Earth's Special Forces needed to come up with enough money soon, or else the entire Earth will be wiped of all life forms. Kris couldn't let that happen, no matter what. To become a guardian of Earth alongside Kami, Kris needed to come up with a way to produce significant profit in a short amount of time. He thought back to his previous trips from the lookout. There had to be some way to make money... Anything would help. Kris was a lot stronger than most humans on Earth, and had the benefit of flight. There must be SOME odd job he could find out there. He adjusted the weighted turban on his head and slowly levitated upwards, a circular breeze forming beneath him, and a small cloud of dust dispersing. A sudden white aura flashed around him as he drew Ki from within his own body. He then flew off into the distance towards West City, where he would try and find some people to work for. Suki would be arriving in just a few days, and Kris was desperate. He would even beg for extra money if the need arose (Though deception was against his morals).
Kris continued to fly, the air whipping against his face and his long black hair rustling out from beneath his white turban. His cape fluttered behind him and his arms remained comfortably at his side. Soon, he would see the tall buildings of West City pierce the horizon. Tall skyscrapers as well as low, round buildings dotted the city as it came into view. Kris slowed down his velocity and descended, coming to a touch down on a sidewalk near the city's edge. He then walked into town, oblivious of the stares he was receiving from the townspeople who were walking along beside him. It wasn't every day they saw a teenager wearing a martial arts outfit with such strange accessories such as a turban and cape. Kris looked around for any signs of people in need of assistance, and soon saw something of interest.
Tall cranes were being operated in a city block nearby, large steel girders fastened to long cables that dangled from the end of the cranes' arms. It appears a new building was under construction, and there was a bit of trouble. One girder was aligned in a way that it couldn't be lowered into position without scraping along the other unfinished parts of the skyscraper. Kris quickened his pace and walked into the construction site. There were several men wearing uniforms and hard, yellow hats. One man in particular stood out from the rest: He was holding a clipboard and yelling things into a megaphone. He occasionally picked up a walkie-talky from his belt and said some orders into it. It seems he was trying to work out the difficult crane situation, so Kris approached him.
"Excuse me, sir? I couldn't help but notice that you're having a bit of trouble. If you don't mind, I could help you." Kris asked the man if he needed help. The man turned and looked at Kris. His eyes travel led down the 18-year-old Half-Saiyan's body and a look of confusion (and somewhat annoyance) came across his face. The man cleared his throat and responded. "Look, I don't need some foreign kid that doesn't even know how to dress appropriately asking to help me, a seasoned construction director. Go run along, kid, you're not needed here." Kris sighed and looked up again. Sure enough, the crane hadn't made any progress in it's efforts to get the girder in place. Kris decided against the man's decision.
Kris rose off the ground using his Bukujutsu and flew upwards towards the girder. Every man on the site stood with their jaws open as the teenager floated up. Soon, Kris was next to the girder. He looked at the man who seemed to be operating the crane. "Where do you want it?" Kris called out loudly. The man pointed towards a spot along the side of the unfinished building, where an apparent gap could be seen in the girders that lined the framework. Kris noticed where the girder was meant to be place and nodded. He then placed his hands under the metal beam and took a deep breath. He got ready to carry the girder, then nodded at the crane operator. "Release the crane, sir!" he yelled to the man. The man knew he shouldn't doubt a child who could fly, so he hit the switch to release the clamp that held the beam to the cable. Kris heaved as the full weight fell down on his arms. He found it difficult to fly properly at first, so he increased his power, emitting a sky blue aura as he moved into position.
He flew slowly and carefully, holding the metal beam and lowering it to the proper location on the building. Once he was there, he slid the beam into place, propping it where it belonged. After the girder was secure, he released it and flew back a few feet, breathing moderately heavy from the tiring work. He then flew back down to meet up with the boss of the site, who had watched the whole scenario with a pair of binoculars. "So, how is that?" Kris asked, hoping the man approved of the girder's placement. "Son, I'm not gonna ask you how you did that, but I am gonna ask you this... You wanna work at a construction site for a day?" Kris grinned, knowing his efforts were succeeding. Kris nodded and listened to the boss's instructions on how they would go about finishing the building.
There were many more gaps in the framework, but they would soon be filled by Kris, who was getting a good workout from carrying the large metal beams to and fro. He soon got the hang of it, and was placing them faster than when he started. Within the hour, Kris had placed all necessary beams into their correct slots. The boss of the construction site grinned at the young Kris Stephens and said: "Boy, that sure was something. You made our jobs a hell of a lot easier, and so please accept a payment for a job-well-done. We'll take it from here, kid." The man then handed Kris a sum of Zeni. Kris beamed with pride. This would certainly help with paying Suki, but there was more Zeni to get. Kris waved to the men and walked off. The sun was high in the sky, as it was now around 2:00. Kris had plenty of time to spare, so he roamed the streets some more, hoping to find more work.
After a while of wandering some more, Kris smelled something pleasent... It was a familiar smell, one that he definitely remembered from somewhere. After he looked around, he saw a sign that read "Ted and Tilly's Fish Hut". Kris remembered this place fondly, it was where the master of the dojo across the street treated him to lunch. Kris smiled and looked towards the small martial arts training center, happy to see the young teenagers practicing as always. He walked across the street after waiting for the cars to pass, and entered the dojo. The instructor signaled for the students to stop their drills before approaching Kris. "Well, hello there, young man! You interested in some good old fashion martial arts? I can give you a free trial lesson if you're interested." Kris tilted his head a little. The instructor didn't recognize him... Though, Kris DID age a year in the span of only a few weeks, so it was understandable. Kris responded to the man. "What, you don't remember me?" Kris then entered his signature fighting stance, low with his feet wide apart and his arms bent slightly and extending outwards, his fists loose. The man thought for a moment, then grinned. "I'd recognize that stance anywhere... Kris Stephens, my boy! You've grown! Last I checked, you were at least two inches shorter. What happened?" Kris smirked at the man and replied. "Well, it's a long story. Anyways, are the students doing well?"
The instructor laughed and walked past some of the young ones who were patiently awaiting orders. "Well I'll tell you, they've never been so eager to train since you showed up. You certainly put things in perspective for us, and the students here have been working their butts off! I have too, of course." The instructor grinned and flexed his muscle teasingly. Kris chuckled and looked at the kids who were all eying him with admiration. Kris seemed to become the class hero of this little dojo. Then, he had an idea... Kris looked at the master and spoke up. "Master, would it be alright if I gave your students a special lesson in martial arts?" The instructor grinned at Kris and replied. "Well I would be honored to have someone like you teach my students something. I'll even join in the learning if you don't mind, haha!" The man put on a slightly embarrassed smile and joined his students in line. Kris grinned and spoke. "I don't mind at all, sir. Now..." Kris walked in the center of the training area, thinking of what to teach the kids. He had never really taught a lesson before, and was at a loss for words. He thought to himself what Sohen, his old teacher, would do in this situation. Kris then looked up and took a deep breath.
"Today, I will be explaining the use of one's inner energy, or 'Ki'. Ki is a spiritual power that rests within all living things. All of you contain Ki, the trick however, is turning that spiritual energy into physical energy. Allow me to demonstrate..." Kris then assumed the classic power-up stance and closed his eyes. "...HaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAHHHH!!" An aura appeared around Kris that blazed in white, then sky blue, then dark blue as he powered up to his maximum. The foam tiles that made up the floor of the dojo peeled upwards around Kris from the sheer energy that radiated from him. Soon, he relaxed, the aura persisting as he stood up straight, his muscles bulging more than when he started. The students were a bit nervous through the entire process, but they now looked at Kris in awe. "Now, this is my energy when I power up to maximum. I can go further than this, but it requires a special technique that took a long time to learn. When I release my Ki like this, my physical strength is powered up exponentially." The kids stared at Kris, whispering to one-another in praise of their special teacher.
Kris started to power down, his aura fading and his muscles relaxing. "It took eight years to be able to draw out that much of my inner energy, so I don't expect you to all learn that today. However, I will show you how much of a difference it means to use Ki." Kris continued with the lesson by informing the students how to meditate and discover their inner energy, as well as how to grab hold of it and use it as physical power. Soon, a few higher-skilled teens could feel a power pulling them from within. Kris new it was time to move on to the next part of the lesson.
Kris called one of the advanced students up to the front of the class. He retrieved a wooden plank from the corner of the dojo and told the student to try and break the wood. "Now, break this wood as you would normally." Kris held the wood with two hands as the student focused for a moment. He took a deep breath and delivered a strong punch, breaking the wood with little effort, causing it to splinter. "Good, now let's try something a little more interesting." Kris then picked up two wooden planks and held them up for the student. "Now. Try it again, but this time focus your Ki before you punch. Meditate for a moment and find your spiritual energy. Pull that energy through your body and focus it to your fist. Then, release the Ki outward as you punch. Got it?" The student nodded at the instruction and prepared for another punch. Two boards at the same time was a bit of a challenge, but he had done it before.
The student closed his eyes and focused his energy, concentrating it to his fist and breathing deeply. He then delivered the punch with a yell, releasing his Ki into the board upon impact. The planks fractured and were sent flying across the room, shards of wood falling to the ground behind Kris. Kris grinned and congratulated the boy, the entire class clapping in amazement. The student then went back in line with the others, leaving Kris to say one final word of encouragement.
"Now you can see what accessing your inner energy can make you capable of. Train your mind and body hard every day, and make sure you meditate to help channel your Ki better." Kris clapped his right fist into his left hand and gave a deep bow to the class, who bowed back. The dojo's instructor then approached Kris with a smile. "Kris, you're an inspiration. Thank you for teaching us today. Please take this for your troubles." The instructor then handed Kris some Zeni for his work. Kris thanked the master and headed back outside to continue his search for work. It was now around 5:00, so Kris had time for one more job if he could find it.
He wandered through the streets, a small purse of Zeni in hand. With this, he may be able to pay Suki in time. Soon, he came across what looked to be a crime scene. Police men were scurrying about, handing files to each other and talking through walkie-talkies. There were a few men that were examining a chalk outline of a human body. Kris didn't know what any of this meant, but he knew that something was definitely wrong. He approached the officer who seemed to be in charge and spoke up. "Excuse me, officer? Do you need help with anything? I'm more that capable of stopping armed thugs, it's happened before."
The officer stared at Kris and grimaced. The officer objected. "Kid, this here is dangerous work. Run on home, it's not safe around here." Kris sighed and walked towards one of the police cars. Without a word, he powered up and took hold of the car, hoisting it above his head and flying upwards about ten feet. Needless to say, the police men were stunned. After Kris demonstrated his abilities, he set the car down gently and walked back to the head officer. "You believe me now?" The officer was still speechless. Was he talking to a super hero or something? He shrugged the feeling and responded to Kris. "Alright, alright I believe you. I don't know how you did that, but it seems you can be of use... So listen, here's the deal. We've been after this crook for a long time now. He's a burglar, a drug dealer, and worst of all, a murderer. We've never been able to catch him, and he has a gang of thugs somewhere in the city. Do you think you can help us find him, and stop him once we do?" Kris simply nodded as a reply.
"Alright, good. Now follow me." The officer lead Kris to his car and pulled a map out from his front seat. He opened the map, which showed all the streets of West City. There was a red circle drawn over a few city blocks towards the center of the map. "So here's West City. Judging from eye-witness reports and intel gathered from investigators, we believe this guy's hideout is somewhere around here." The officer pointed at the red circle. Kris nodded as the officer continued his briefing. "Now, it looks like you can fly. Anything else you can help with? Super hearing, anything?" Kris looked at the officer and replied. "Well, I can sense the energy of living things." The officer grinned and responded. "Haha, that's perfect. Now here's what we'll do. I'll send an armed SWAT team with you to go find the hideout. Fly above the buildings and use your... Life-sensing... Thing to find the bad guys. Once you find them, wait for the SWAT team to catch up and go in. You in?" Kris nodded with determination. After preparing to move out, Kris took to the sky to the area specified on the map.
Though he didn't tell the officer, Kris really didn't need back-up of any kind. He could take on armed thugs a long time ago, and his power was at least 8X what it was back then. He closed his eyes and cleared his mind, sensing the power level of each citizen on the streets below. He flew over a few backlots and warehouses, and suddenly sensed a spike of higher Ki energy. After focusing more on the building below, he sensed a large number of higher-than-average life forms. He grinned and descended down to the building. Without waiting for back-up, he simply walked through the front entrance. There was nobody there, though he could still sense energy signatures. He wandered through the warehouse-like structure, using his senses to guide him. Eventually, he found a number of crates stacked up by a wall. They didn't seem like they belonged there, so Kris decided to try moving them. He got to work lifting and moving the crates, placing them on the floor away from the wall. Sure enough, there was a small entrance on the wall to what seemed to be a hidden corridor.
Kris ducked down and entered the small hole, quietly making his way through a dark hallway. The power levels were getting closer, and soon he began to hear voices. The voices were deep and burly-sounding, fitting for a bunch of thugs. Soon, Kris rounded a corner and saw about ten men crowding around a table. One of them seemed to be counting something, though Kris didn't know what. He inched forward and decided it would be best to simply fight them head-on.
Kris emerged from the dark hallway into the lounge-like room where the thugs resided. "Excuse me, gentlemen." Kris said, not even bothering to enter his fighting stance. The thugs spun around and looked at the teenager that seemed to find his way into the secret headquarters. "Hey, where'd this kid come from??" said one. Another replied: "I don't know, and I don't care! Shoot this punk!" The men pulled out handguns and took aim at Kris before opening fire. Kris simply used one hand to swipe the air back and forth, stopping each bullet in it's tracks. After the thugs ran out of ammo, they shook in fear for their lives. Kris grinned and said to them: "You done? Good, now it's my turn."
Kris used extreme speed to simply dash from one thug to the next, delivering a swift punch to each one's gut. It didn't take more that a few seconds to put them all on the ground, groaning in pain. Kris got to work carrying each one out and tying them up with some rope he found. Eventually, Kris had all the thugs tied up outside before the SWAT team even arrived. The armed team stared at Kris in awe. "I'll let you guys take it from here." Kris simply flew off towards where he met the head officer. Once there, Kris met with the officer and explained the situation. "Well I'll be. You took them all down by yourself? Kid, take this. You certainly earned it." The officer handed Kris some Zeni for his work. Kris thanked the officer and flew off.
It was now around 7:30, and Kris decided to head back to the lookout. It was getting dark, and Kris was getting hungry. He powered up his white aura and began the trip back to Kami's, eager to have some food to satisfy his Saiyan appetite.
((Complete. Zeni requested. Medium weighted clothing bonus.))
Kris continued to fly, the air whipping against his face and his long black hair rustling out from beneath his white turban.
