Over a year has passed since Kris had won the Central City Junior Martial Arts Championship. Kris' master, Sohen, promised to teach Kris a new technique if he had won. Little did Kris know, it would take over a year just to learn the basics of the new move, called "Kiaiho Sutoraiki". Today, we observe Kris carrying out his daily training, trying to master the beginning stages of the Kiaiho Sutoraiki.
"... Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah...!", Kris yelled out as he began to focus his ki again. His entire body glowed in an aura of dim, white light. His hand, however, had an intense deep blue aura bursting out of it. The technique, as described by Sohen, is a sort of punch, aided by focusing one's body energy into the fist. Kris was instructed to focus every ounce of ki he had into his right hand. Sohen said that Kris would be ready to advance into the next stage of the technique as soon as he can focus all of his ki into his hand in under a few seconds. During the first few days of this new training, Kris couldn't even manage to focus half of his ki into his hand. Within a few months, he could focus every last bit of ki into his hand, but it took a whole 2 minutes to do so. Now, Kris could focus everything he had into his hand in only 5 seconds.
After his ki was focused, Kris was told to keep it focused for as long as possible. By doing this, we would get used to the feeling of energy being stored into his hand, thereby making it easier to control. At this point in his training, Kris could keep the ki focused for around 4 minutes before having to relax it.
"There... Master? I've been training for over a year. When can I finally begin to learn the actual technique?"
"Hmm, you have been quite patient, my boy. None of my other students have been able to wait this long through training, let alone do as well as you. I'd say you're just about ready to advance to the second stage of learning the technique."
Kris' face beamed with excitement. He was finally going to learn the new technique that Sohen had created!
"I can't wait, master! Now, how do I use the Kiaiho Sutoraiki?"
"Not so fast, you're not ready to use the technique just yet. First, allow me to show you what the Sutoraiki looks like in action..."
Kris, still focusing the ki in his hand, watched his master curiously. He had never actually seen the Sutoraiki in action before. Sohen approached a large tree that was nearby. He then gently placed his hand upon the bark of the tree. He looked quite casual as he remained there for a few seconds, not even in fighting stance. Kris was a bit confused, when suddenly, Sohen let out a loud "HA!!" As he did, Kris watched as the tree was practically annihalated under Sohen's hand. The area where Sohen's hand rested was completely obliterated, and the top half of the tree was sent flying into the woods, only to crash into the ground with a large cloud of dust. Kris was amazed. Sohen destroyed a tree by simply placing his hand on it and yelling.
"There! You see? Quite the attack, I'd say. That's just a small taste of what I could do with the Sutoraiki."
"Small taste?? What kind of technique is this...?", thought Kris to himself as he stared at his master, his jaw hanging open.
"Now. There are two key elements essential to using this technique. First, the user draws all of their ki through their muscles, transporting bodily energy to a certain part of the body, usually the fist or foot. Once the ki builds momentum to the desired body part, the user flexes every muscle in the body towards the point of contact, releasing the ki and creating an invisible force that transfers into the opponent via the users hand or foot. This allows the user to accomplish one of two things: The user can either deliver the full force of a punch by merely touching the opponent, or they can effectively double the force of a full punch. Also, the force exerted by this strike passes through the opponent's defences, attacking internal organs as well as the surface of the body."
Kris was a bit confused, but nodded. He would learn better by performing the technique anyways.
"Now, are you ready to try the technique?" Kris nodded again. "Good. Start by relaxing your ki and regulating it throughout your body." Kris closed his eyes and exhaled slowly, the dark blue aura from his hand fading and merging back with the rest of his body. He spread his ki throught his body evenly, emitting a white-blue aura that surrounded him. He then opened his eyes and awaited his master's next instruction. "Good. Now, place your hand on that tree." Kris did as he told, placing his hand upon a nearby tree and entering a ready stance. "Now to perform the technique. I want you to first draw the ki from your entire body, focusing it in your hand. Then, flex every muscle in your body towards the point of contact. Finally, release the ki in your hand, and at the same time, force all of your physical strength into the palm of your hand. Make sure you perform the three steps in one consistant motion" Kris took a deep breath, then looked at the tree with determination in his eyes. "Haaaaaaah!" He focused his ki into his hand again, a bit quicker than before. As soon as he started drawing ki, he felt his muscles being drawn towards his fist. He took that as his cue and tensed his body, attempting to transport every ounce of his physical being into the attack. "Good! Now, release!!" "Kyah!!" Kris yelled as he shot every last bit of energy, both ki and muscular, out from the palm of his hand and into the tree. As he did, he felt his palm throb in pain as the tree suddenly splintered and cracked under his hand.
After the impact subsided, Kris dropped to one knee, exhausted from the technique. He looked up to observe the damage he had caused. He noted that a very large area of the tree was fractured. The damage was centered at the point where he placed his hand. "Hmm, good. Now tell me what you think is different about your tree than mine." He gestured towards the tree that he recently destroyed. Kris looked at it, panting as he attempted to regain his breath. After a moment, Kris replied:
"Well, it looks like the damage on your tree was more intense, and more focused. The damage on my tree is more spread out, and less efficient."
"I couldn't have said it better myself. You're right. To use the technique properly, you must focus all of your energy to one single point of contact. It's like the difference between hitting someone with a sheet of plywood, and hitting them with a hammer. The hammer is denser and has a more focused point of contact. Even if the plywood is heavier, it does't create the same amount of damage. Furthermore, you must also learn to unleash all of the energy at once, creating a single wave of force. If you let it out slowly, it creates more of a constant push than a forceful blow."
"Oh, I understand... Then my next training will involve focusing my energy better, and creating a single, pin-point wave of energy?"
"Exactly. Keep this up and you'll learn the move in no time!"
And so, the next stage of Kris' training had begun.
