Finally the battle in Central City was over. Although, Nam wasn’t capable of saving a soul out there, the events proved that Meishi was not invincible for he had retreated in the end. Nam still wondered what kind of weakness the demon was trying to cover up with his leave. The majin seemed to be invincible with his amazing regenerative abilities, almost immortal –like some sort of god.
Nam was visiting Satan City. Everyone had moved there ever since the accident. It seems this place was going to become the new capital city. At least until Central City was brought back to its former glory. Now that the fighting was over for a while, Nam was going to use his recreational time to improve his fighting. It seemed that as the days went by, all the half-saiyan seemed to do was fight, eat, train, fight, train, fight, fight, eat… OH! And of course, he had to sleep. He wasn’t fighting for revenge so much as before. Now, Nam was fighting to protect everyone. If he didn’t do it, who would? Either way, Nam would never turn his back on a person in need, so he might as well prepare himself for that moment to come. He’s already been in various situations, and he had been the underdog in each one. Even in the fight against Meishi, that human girl seemed to have been more useful than Nam would ever be, with that huge sphere of energy she launched at the demon. And Nam’s power level was higher than hers too.
Yes, it was evident that Nam needed to improve his abilities. And so, he went to the public library in search for some ideas of what kind of moves he could learn. The library was quiet and cozy, like any other. The floor was made out of wood and so where the bookshelves. Everything fit in perfectly. Nam decided to check out an old history book which caught his attention. It talked about the Z-fighters. The half-saiyan sat on a random chair and opened the book. He read things about Krillin, the most powerful human –or so was his reputation. The idea of a Destructo Disk –or Kienzan- was pretty appealing. Nam hadn’t a single piercing attack to his name. He thought he could also use some kind of exploding attack, like the one Meishi had done more than once already. Antary had his as well. Yes, there were so many useful techniques Nam had yet to master.
The half-saiyan kept reading further into the book, searching for self-improvement. It’s been a while since he sat quietly in a chair, enjoying the silence of solitude and not having to risk his life all the time. He then ran into a move that spiked his interest. It was, the Ring Jyou no (Energy Ring). According to the book it was used by Majin Vegeta to pin Goku to a wall. Sure, explosions and piercing attacks would be useful for causing damage. But Meishi can regenerate at increasing speeds and most of those attacks destroy their surroundings. What Nam really needed in that battle was a way to pin the demon down where they could speak. The technique could probably be used for a number of other things Nam was probably not thinking about at the moment.
And so, the tailless monkey closed the book and returned it to its shelf as he concluded on the next attack he wanted to develop. He exited the library and entered an alley which was found a few walks away. It was deserted and he was completely alone. Perfect for trying the attack; but he needed some sort of target to know whether it’d work. Nam decided to worry about that later and first focus on actually learning the technique. He closed his eyes and began to visualize the image he saw in the book. Vegeta was holding two fingers up, and a circular ring of energy was hovering in front of it.
It was pretty hard to decipher how the move actually worked with just the image. Nam sat on the cold floor and began to meditate, his mind pondering and trying to make sense of the technique. Trying to figure it out was quite jarring. Let’s see… for the technique to work, it has to be somewhat solid to contain Nam’s adversary. The first thing that came to mind whilst thinking that; was Zach’s unique energy armor. He then thought that launching the attack would be as simple as launching an energy beam. So far, Nam had theorized the solution of two aspects when it comes to the “Ring Jyou no”. But how would a ring shaped object catch another?
Nam stood up from the ground and spotted a ring shaped metal piece. It looked like it belonged to someone’s car, but it was rusty and old. Nam scanned the area for a target, and found a bottle. He decided to test the energy ring attack’s logic with a rusty spare car piece and a glass bottle; he was positive that throwing the rusty ring would just shatter the bottle, but maybe he’d notice something. With that, Nam proceeded with his plan and tossed the ring at the bottle, just hard enough to go right through it. As the ring approached the bottle with high speed, his obvious theory was confirmed and the bottle had shattered into pieces upon impact; just as his predictions dictated –Nothing new here...
Nam observed the ring as it seemed to have been embedded into the wall behind the bottle. At least it did that much, but Nam needed something other than air to be actually contained by the ring. He turned his back on his failed attempt and went on in search for new inspiration. Nam kept his eyes open, trying to see some kind a movement or characteristic that might be relevant to the new technique he was trying to concoct. What was going through Vegeta’s head when he developed that move? Could it be that in reality he wasn’t just an over powered monkey? Or perhaps, Bulma was to thank for his realization. Nam bet his money on that last one.
“AAAAH! SOMEBODY HELP ME!” a young woman screamed as a single man seemed to chase her across the street. Meanwhile, everyone just walked pass them like nothing was happening. Why don’t people help when they can clearly see she’s in need? he wondered as he began to jog in the aid of the young woman. They just ignore people’s cries and keep on walking. Is this what Nam’s been protecting from Meishi all this time?
Nam followed the two into another alley, where the lady was cornered by her aggressor. “Hey! Leave her alone!” Nam demanded. He sort of felt heroic, but feeling the power signature of this man, he wouldn’t put on much of a fight. Nam estimated the delinquent’s power level around a mere five. The greasy man turned to face his challenger, whom was wearing casual clothing. His combed hair seemed to yell money at the man; Nam could’ve sworn to have seen the pupils on the mugger’s eyes take the form of a dollar sign, but maybe that was just his imagination. The vile man charged with knife at hand towards the heroic youth. The aggressor seemed to miss the handle of Nam’s sword which was resting on his back. But Nam decided to use this opportunity to try and test the “Ring Jyou no” on his adversary.
The half-saiyan lifted his right arm and pointed his index and middle finger at the man, while the rest were tucked underneath –imitating the posture he saw in the image- as the mugger closed in on his prey. Nam concentrated his chi to form a ring of energy in front of himself. Doing that seemed to be harder than he thought; it required some form of energy manipulation control and it constantly flickered and shook as there was an imbalance of energy all around the ring’s diameter. This gave the man time to get into punching distance with Nam and thrust his hand forward while holding the knife. Nam didn’t panic, the distance didn’t bother him at all; to him, the delinquent seemed to have been moving at a laughable speed. But the woman’s expression said otherwise as Nam could see her horrified face in the background.
The aggressor was then surprised as his knife met air, even though he could’ve sworn Nam was near to cero inches away from getting gutted out with the man’s knife. The young lady was also awestruck to the young saiyan’s performance; Nam was just playing with the man, trying to figure out how the attack works. Standing a few feet away from the delinquent, Nam initiated his second attempt. The mugger wrenched the confusing gesture away and charged towards the mysterious challenger once again. They seemed to repeat the display over and over again. Nam would attempt to charge the ring shaped attack, while the aggressor would continue his never ending quest to pierce the ghostly man in the guts. Nam even decided to tease the man, “You see? This is why you shouldn’t do drugs…” Nam smirked and watched as his opponent was only angered and he continued his attempt to injure the half-saiyan. All the while, the lady slowly shied away from the scene and tried to get the cop’s attention.
At last, after the –lost count… After trying so many times, Nam seemed to have been capable of concentrating a perfectly round and ring shaped energy attack. Next he launched it at the mugger’s hands to see what would happen. The shady man winced as the energy ring struck his hand, releasing the knife to the ground. It seemed that the only thing Nam had accomplished after all this time, was to create a fancy version of a basic ki ball. All it managed to do was burn the man’s hand, if Nam had made it sharper, it’d be like a mini destructo disk, but he wasn’t trying to learn the Kienzan at the moment. The Kienzan didn’t seem like too much of a challenge anyway –Just a disk with sharp edges.
Shortly after, the police force had arrived and took the mugger in. The woman whom Nam was protecting specified that the young boy with combed hair was just trying to help her, and so Nam avoided getting questioned and pushed into the cop’s mobile. He did though, see the most interesting object. It wasn’t anything fancy whatsoever, nothing new; it was just the cuffs the man had on his hands. Nam observed as the metallic half circle was placed under the mugger’s hands, and then the circle was completed to form the shape of a ring as a bright blue light of energy surrounded enclosed the hand. That was exactly what Nam was looking for; perhaps, the secret to Vegeta’s technique.
“Hold on a minute!” Nam started, “can I see that for a sec?” he was asked, pointing at the police man’s cuffs. They simply shrugged and handed over one of their metallic wonders to the curious monkey. Nam put it on and allowed it to capture his hands. He moved them around, feeling the blue light. It felt like a glittering tube, definitely solid; although, it wouldn’t have been hard for someone with Nam’s power to break free. The cops began to gossip among themselves, probably discussing the oddity that is Nam. It was like he had never seen a pair of modern cuffs before.
Finally, after observing the metallic rings developed by Capsule Corp., the policemen removed it from Nam’s wrists by presenting it with some kind of key that shoot a small and harmless lazer inside the keyhole, which acted as some sort of signal and the blue light dispersed; releasing Nam’s hands. They then presented the loon with a bag of zeni. Nam refused to accept it. “No thanks, I didn’t do it for money. She simply asked for help, and I did what was natural and helped,” he explained.
“Hahaha, I can understand that. But please, accept this reward. Not everyone thinks as pure as you, this gesture will probably encourage others to do the same act of heroism you have displayed today. Even if they do it for the wrong reasons –we can’t ALL be peace loving kids ya know.” Replied the largest of them all, his voice deep and vibrating, like his big buff body. The chief patted Nam on the back with his beefy hands, it felt like he was trying to make Nam cough up an organ or something; in the end, the half-saiyan had no choice but to accept the reward and he headed out.
He couldn’t decide whether he should have felt offended by the man’s words. ”peace loving kid…” that’s what he said. Nam didn’t see himself as a child. He was 17. At last, he shook the thought away and thought about the cuffs. How could he apply the cuffs to an airborne energy ring? Nam concentrated the ring, which hovered over his two fingers like a halo as he walked through the streets of Satan City, oblivious to the everyday traffic noise. He tried to slip his wrist through it, but he couldn’t. Suddenly, Nam had an idea. What if he threw the attack as if he were slashing with his sword?
Nam walked into another dark alley once again; it didn’t seem too different from the previous. After confirming he was indeed alone, he wielded his sword out of its scabbard and simulated the motions. He imagined a thin layer of energy being swung along with the sword’s blade, just like Frieza’s Daichiretsuzan; although, much shorter and flexible –and less deadly. Nam observed in his mind how the fine line of energy would spiral in the air like a boomerang, and upon impact it would coil around its target. He held his two edged sword up high, charging it with his ki and then as he thrust down, that same line he had visualized had materialized. Nam proceeded on continuing his swings as if he were attacking someone and sent about three more layers of energy; each toward a different target: the first wrapped around a bottle, but then the bottle shattered from the impact. The second one coiled around a trash can, which was dented upon contact, although it was contained, as Nam intended. The third embraced a light pole and the fourth second’ it.
It seemed that although Nam had not performed the Ring Jyou no technique, he had created his own version. He also thought this one was better because small rings would probably have been easier to dodge than a flailing rope; especially since some might confuse it for an attack and attempt to shatter it. Nam withdrew his sword, contempt with his results. But he wanted to try doing the same attack, without his sword. He raised two fingers to the side across his chest and slashed diagonally. The line of energy spiraled in the air towards the pole, but it seemed unstable and it moved violently before self-destructing in midair.
It seemed Nam needed more practice; but he’d simply use his sword while he trained to perfect his restraining technique. Meanwhile, his new technique needed a name. Just so it’s not simply a movement Nam does with his sword, he needed a name to identify and summarize his new ability. Ring Jyou no didn’t seem like a proper name anymore, especially since it wasn’t even the same energy ring technique Vegeta used. After failing miserably at developing a cool name for his new attack; Nam was at a loss for words and lacked imagination, so he simply decided to name it his “Binding Technique”, for now.
FINISHED, I WANT ZENI AND MY NEW ABILITY
Binding Technique – Nam uses his two edged sword to draw a thin/thick layer of energy, depending on the amount of concentration he puts in it, which spirals in the air and coils around its target after its whiplashing impact; tightening like a cobra and restraining the victim from movement. It can be as short or long as he wants so he can aim towards the neck, wrist, legs, body, etc. It might not take too long for someone to break free from one, but the more of these whipping belts catch you; the harder it is to break free.
